Schiff: If Trump doesn't act on Russia, could be dereliction of duty

The top Democrat on the House intelligence committee said that if President Donald Trump doesn't act on the threat Russia poses, he could be derelict in his duty to protect the United States.

Earlier Wednesday, former US ambassador to NATO and George W. Bush administration official Nicholas Burns had accused Trump of "dereliction of the basic duty to defend the country" for what he said was Trump's apparent disinterest in Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

CNN's Jake Tapper read the statement to Schiff, then said: "That seems rather strong. What do you think?"

"I would completely agree with that," the California Democrat said on "The Lead" Wednesday. "The national security needs of the country have to come first, they certainly have to come as a higher priority than whatever effect this would have on how he views the legitimacy or the size of his election victory."

And yet will do nothing about it himself.

The continued push for relaxation of sanctions toward a country that 'attacked' our elections and will continue to do so, could certainly be considered a dereliction of duty.

Even IF he had nothing to do with organizing, colluding, helping to plan and implement the details, he was the beneficiary. He should be embarrassed and be even more conciliatory towards Democrats and their voters to heal the nation. Instead he does the opposite and makes enemies of them and the press along with them.

Any other barely competent commander in chief would at the very least show grave concern, and handle the attack on the democracy with more serious attention. He is supposed to be the ultimate defender of the country and he acts like first a whiny kid that found out his bully kid brother forced kids to go to his birthday party and they weren't really his friends, and so he denies it happened. And then when he can't deny it any longer blames someone else for it instead of just focusing on the present and doing his job as president and demanding to get to the bottom of it, for the sake of the democracy! I'm not going to tell him how to do his job, but for gawd's sake at least pretend to care.

and Trump is either too incompetent or too complicit to deal with it.
Either way, he's put us all at risk.
