The White House has taken notice of a gays for Trump group getting banned from participating in the Charlotte Pride parade coming up in August.
The Mecklenburg County Republican Party said the White House Office of Political Affairs contacted Deplorable Pride on Monday with questions about the situation, reports Raleighs News & Observer.
Brian Talbert, co-founder of the group, called Deplorable Pride, characterized the call as partly a show of support.
Charlotte Pride reserves the right to decline participation at our events to groups or organizations which do not reflect the mission, vision and values of our organization, as is acknowledged in our parade rules and regulations by all groups at the time of their parade application, the organization said in a statement. In the past, we have made similar decisions to decline participation from other organizations espousing anti-LGBTQ religious or public policy stances.
Talbert said the float was not intended to be anti-LGBTQ, but instead to celebrate Trump as president. The float would have included a Melania Trump impersonator, as well as women dressed in Make America Great Again evening gowns.
