Ari Melber to take over Van Susteren's 6 p.m. hour on MSNBC

http://money.cnn.com/2017/06/29/media/greta-van-susteren-msnbc-out/index.html

"They let her go," her husband, John Coale, told CNNMoney. He said she'd found out earlier today, and added, "We're working out contract issues now."

In a memo to staffers, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said, "MSNBC and Greta Van Susteren have decided to part ways. Greta is a well-regarded television veteran and one of only a few broadcasters who can say they've hosted shows at all three major cable news networks. We are grateful to her and wish her the best."

Griffin also announced that Ari Melber, MSNBC's chief legal correspondent, will take over the 6 p.m. hour that had been Van Susteren's.

As evidenced by Coale's comments, it appears that the news arrived abruptly on Thursday even for Van Susteren herself. A friend of Van Susteren's told CNNmoney that she was given no prior notice of the decision.

I do NOT like her, did NOT like her show and did not appreciate MSNBC's lurch to the right.

I like Ari. He's good and will fit in well with the more liberal line-up.

Congrats, Ari!

...I am consistently impressed with his weekday appearances, as well as the guest hosting gigs he's recently had (Lawrence O'Donnell and I believe Rachel Maddow as well).

This is a smart move. While Van Susteren wasn't reading from a Roger Ailes script on her MSNBC show, having a former Fox host in the MSNBC evenong lineup never seemed like a "fit" to me.

Her weekly update clarifies what has happened during the week and ties it together. I have even got my sister hooked...because she has limited time between cartoons and homework with her 3 little children.

Van Susteren was a poor fit for both the brand and the audience.
Seems MSNBC will try try try again with Mister Megaphone... Baby Hughie Hewitt.
Either the network will learn their lesson or they'll get themselves another Andy Lack.

I can't even fully explain why I despised it, but I did.

And the "no reservations" thing was obviously designed to be a catch phrase, but it didn't catch me.

Should have realized something was up when I heard her plead at the end of her show for everyone to watch and to get a friend to watch. Ratings for her show must be awful.

She had to know the writing was on the wall with her low ratings. Furthermore, if she is looking for sympathy...forget it!

Ari is very good at clarifying issues of the day.
