Climate change is at the top of the issues list for me (along with health care). I genuinely fear that we're screwing over our kids, their kids, etc., and the actions taken by this administration are downright evil.
I don't want to come across as humorless, but I get royally pissed off and lash out every time I hear someone make a climate change joke. It usually happens on a nice day in the winter (i.e., something like "I could get used to this global warming" or on a cold day in the summer.
Most of the time the people who I hear say such a thing are completely non-political, but I've also heard it among known Democrats.
Does anyone else have the same reaction?
And P.S. #2 on my list of offensive political jokes is an "Al Gore created the Internet" joke. That one burns me up as well.

(59,583 posts)On climate, I'm working on perfecting the Icy Stare Of Death, and I usually follow up with a quick pop quiz - current CO2 concentrations, name the GHGs regulated under Kyoto, who is Dave Keeling, etc. They usually don't know a fucking thing and quit playing immediately.
Re. Gore - Robert Khan and Vinton Cerf didn't "invent" the internet - no one person did. However, they did create HTML, without which it wouldn't work, and here's what they had to say:
"Al Gore was the first political leader to recognize the importance of the
Internet and to promote and support its development.
No one person or even small group of persons exclusively "invented" the
Internet. It is the result of many years of ongoing collaboration among
people in government and the university community. But as the two people
who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the
Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a
Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to
our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of
time."
That last bit I really like: "No other elected official, to our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time."
