Hypothesis: Trump is so awful he has become irrelevant.

I've been puzzled at how many people voted for Trump. I couldn't believe that that many people were that awful. And I've continued to be puzzled by how many Trump voters haven't reversed themselves in revulsion. My theory now is that he is just so awful, ordinary Republicans, people who want smaller government and such, are just ignoring him. They know how awful he is, but they are refusing to take ownership. If that's the case, then attacking Trump does us no good. We have to focus more on policies. What do you all think?

awfulness - these really are the dregs.

but - he is useful to those doing the real damage - the repubs in congress. trump in a way runs interference, gets the media all chasing the shiny awful objects.

In the mean time, the repub courts, politicians, etc turn the country into shit.

Throughout most of history, racism, misogyny, brutality and fearmongering were the norm. Despots ruled. Not so long ago, in America, it was the norm too. We were lulled into a false sense of security because of the progress of the last 60 years. But the people who had to be dragged into decency didn't go away, they jusy went underground for a while, now they are back. The struggle of our more enlightened forebears is now ours. It was not wasy for them either.

is that people who voted for Trump have bought and paid for this debacle - they own it.

Until the Republican party and the Trump voters denounce him - publically and clearly - they wear Trump around their neck. Every time Trump behaves like Trump, Republican politicians must be asked by the media if they agree/approve AND we all must ask the Trump voters we know the same question.
