25th Amendment "Solution"

I hate to be the one who is not convinced that this is the most likely outcome for what ails us.

Trump reminds me of my 93 year old father. He had a lot of mental problems. Shouldn't have been driving as he got into a lot of accidents. Just left to drive to Florida without a cellphone and without telling anyone. Lost a front tooth and refused to get it fixed for more than a year. (He looked like Alfred E. Newman.) He started a fire in his house. He had a dog that he refused to walk and the dog would shit and pee all over the house. (And he'd yell at me when I tried to clean it up.) He didn't want me to wash any dirty dishes which filled the counters because he was afraid the housekeeper wouldn't have anything to do.

You get the picture.

My siblings and I discussed having a competency hearing, to get a guardian to monitor him. But we didn't have a chance because to do that, you need two psychiatrists who will pronounce a subject to be mentally incapacitated, to be a danger to himself and to others. And while our father was exercising extremely poor judgment, he wasn't senile, deranged, etc. He could talk a good game on top of it all.

My point: I don't see a probability that enough people with influence can be convinced that Trump is not mentally competent. Like my father, poor judgment, poor impulse control, and driving you crazy. But there is no legal remedy for these kinds of situations.

My only guess is to wait for 2020 to get a new Congress and launch impeachment.

He is a raging narcissist with an extremely thin skin. I do think he will be goaded into making some serious mistakes before the 2018 elections. Whether those mistakes are enough for Republicans to act on is anyone's guess. If they aren't, then I can see Republicans being replaced in 2018. Otherwise, it will be business as usual in Congress while an overgrown toddler shits all over the White House.

3. Which duties is he incapable of discharging?

The 25th was never intended to apply to a president who can perform the duties of his office but says crazy shit while doing so.

He signs whatever someone puts in front of him, he speaks incoherently, he throws temper tantrums, he contradicts his own people, he watches TV all day and yells at the screen. When he is bad, someone has to take his cellphone away. If that means someone is performing the duties of his office, then a six-year old could do the job.

9. A six year old can't do the job because the Constitution prevents that

His behavior and his personality disorders are irrelevant unless they are rendering him incapable of discharging treat powers and duties conferred upon him by the Constitution.

4. I'm pretty sure enough people with influence already know he is mentally incompetent

It's just a matter of whether it is in their self interest to say publicly. So far not, but if he gets worse, or he can't deliver on their agenda, they might change their minds.

defend the Constitution of the United States....

Ex:
refusal to appoint /nominate candidates for vacant positions

Refusal to address the attack on the voting infrastructure by Russia

Failure to protect confidentiality of classified defense information

Etc....

Due to his affinity and servitude to a foreign country, foreign government, foreign president and or his compromised status due to apparent existence of foreign held Kompromat, which may currently be in use for purposes of blackmail or may be used for such purposes in the future.

10. There's a difference between choosing not to act and being unable to act.

Trumps choices have been horrendous. But he's demonstrated that he's able to discharge the duties and powers conferred on him by the Constitution. He has appointed cabinet members and judges he has named ambassadors and received foreign leaders he has signed legislation. And if legislation implementing the 25th amendment is enacted he'll veto it and,in so doing, demonstrate that he is not unable to discharge the powers of the office.

I don't get why so many folks are infatuated with the 25th amendment which effectively requires a 2/3 vote in both the House and Senate (and could require that vote over and over) when impeachment requireds only a majority vote in the House and 2/3 in the Senate and is permanent.

My father died of an aortic dissection (like John Ritter) that he sustained after another car accident three years ago. He mistook the accelerator for the brake and rear-ended a van at a gas station. He refused medical attention and didn't tell anyone. For a week, he had a slow bleed and had a massive heart attack as a result. Almost like an episode from St. Elsewhere.

BTW, he made 10 Wills in 10 years. He disinherited me and my brother & sister. And he left $35,000 to the neighbor across the street. Obviously he had sufficient mental capacity to sign those Wills.

But I will say it needs to be done as soon as possible, like today. He is unfit to be a junior high softball coach let alone president. He is intellectually, psychologically, and morally incompetent.
