The Whole Quote (below)

“The President’s Commission has quickly politicized its work by asking states for an incredible amount of voter data that I have, time and time again, refused to release. My response to the Commission is, you're not going to play politics with Louisiana’s voter data, and if you are, then you can purchase the limited public information available by law, to any candidate running for office. That’s it.”

It's a legit point, and besides, it will REALLY frost Donnie's cookies.

Then maybe throw in a quip like "Why do you fail to trust Americans when you clearly trust Russia (as evidenced by your eagerness to investigate potential voting irregularities about the former, but not the latter?"

It explains why so many Red States are so reticent to open their books. Even with top GOP members assuring them privately that the fix will still be in, and even made stronger, the politicians in those states don't want to take the risk of exposure. Some damn Dem may get a peek, or a 'fake news' outlet.

I recently moved to Louisiana so did some checking. Turns out that Louisiana SELLS the voter registration roll information for $5,000. It offered for the fed to buy that info, like anyone else can buy it.

What information is included? I was surprised to see that it included EVERYTHING the fed wants, except Social Security numbers. (The fed has said that it's FINE if states don't supply SS #s.) Name, party, way the person voted last 20 times, address, district, parish, EMAIL ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, age, gender, and anything else you can think of.

Ironically, the VOTERS THEMSELVES DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THIS INFORMATION. What phone number did I give the state? I have two, but don't remember which one. I can't even look that info up online. But someone else CAN, if they pay the fee. (I'll call to see what phone number they have...so I can then change it in secret.)

So the La. Sec of State is doing a political word game. Trying to appear to be not complying, while complying for a fee.

Looks like I'll be baraged with candidate and fed govt robocalls for the rest of my time in this state, since it sells my phone number and email address.

I gave an email address so that the elections people could send me emails about upcoming elections. Not so I could be spammed by third parties.

The state doesn't have that information, nor even a single instance of a 'way the person voted' record ... or they damn sure better not!

Also, presumably the State has no choice but to let this BS 'Task Force' or whatever they call themselves ... buy these records ... they're public (for-sale) records in LA.

I think the less info you request, the lower the fee, with the max to be $5k. THe $5k max includes the way the voter voted the last 20 times.

I just moved here, so don't know what they have. There can be, say, 5 elections a year, so it's a four year record if the person voted at every election. Could be it only goes back for X number of years, so if a person votes only once a year, it won't have 20 years of voting history.

By "how" the voter voted, I don't know if that means what party he voted for, or the person. I assume the party.

Yes, Louisiana has no good reason to resist the fed, that I can see, since they sell ALL the information (except SS #s). They could try to resist on the grounds of being against a national database, or that the fed is different from a single individual. I don't think that would go very far.
