Maybe we need to change the 4th to National 'Disrespect The Flag' Day?

My personal feelings are that I don't really get too excited about those doing whatever with the flag.
Where I do get excited is these people who think they are "patriotic" and would just as soon kill you if you were to burn a flag.

The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.

The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.

The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform.

as long as people aren't cutting up actual flags to make them...

Good example... Olympics uniforms

Flag images and stars-and-stripes aren't The Flag. The flag code talks about The Flag.

Properly, reverently, disposed of. The faded decals should be removed.

I don't like it being worn as a cape. Not crazy about the sleeves, ether. But I see the design on the team's uniforms as being part of the identification for an international event, and I think the team should take care of the clothing, and dispose of it when it looks less than "spiffy".

I can see where design elements of the flag, such as the stripes or the white stars on the blue field, can be used, but I don't like the flag on the advertisement.

with all these misuses of the flag, too. I was brought up to show respect for the flag as a symbol of our country. We were taught how to run the flag up the pole at school, how to take it down, fold it and store it.

My son is an Eagle Scout. He was taught the proper respect for the flag, and the correct ways to display and dispose of the flag. My husband, who served, also respects the flag we fly here on holidays.

We don't happen to be over-the-top jingoists here. But look at the mess we are in because rich, greedy pukes do not respect our freedoms, rights and institutions.
