He sounds like a fourth grader reading a chapter in his school history book for the first time. He is literally just reciting the history of Poland. I'm sure his people thought that it would make it sound as if he had some actually knowledge of world history, but occasionally he reads something that surprises him and ad libs something stupid. Like when he told the Polish people that once Germany and Russia both attacked them at the same time. "Oh, that was a tough one. Very bad." What a complete moron.

(17,148 posts)And the Polish people are incredible. Just incredible. Thank you. This is a beautiful piece of land. So beautiful. Thank you. We will stand behind NATO, but they gotta pay up. Thank you. Poland is incredible. Thank you. And the nazis came from the west, and Russia came from the east, and you were just incredible. Thank you. This is a beautiful city. So beautiful. Thank you.
At least he didn't say "I am a polish sausage."

many of the Polish refugees living in our area, I would make a guess that the Trumps would shut them out.

(8,677 posts)Is the current Polish government is a totalitarian regime that has most notably taken wholesale control of their national press services and national court system. The current commentary coming from that government regarding how they feel about the US is unsettling to say the least. They committed to getting him to stop there by busing in crowds to cheer for him and playing to his vanity.
That is just scratching the surface and for trump to make his first stop in Europe is very disconcerting and no president, democrat or republican, would have ever committed to stopping there much less making it a first stop.
We are in dangerous territory, trump is increasingly more friendly to harsh and totalitarian regimes and it reflects on how he acts and his words. The way he talks about the press and the courts, you can be sure he is looking at Poland as an example, wondering how they did it.

(4,343 posts)It's very perplexing that the racist alt right is looking to Eastern Europe for their hope. They consider someone like Putin a hero and savior for the white race. In their view, they look to Eastern Europe because it was not spoiled and destroyed by western decadence. Yeah, Putin the totalitarian, a hero? But the racist alt right love that kind of tyranny.
I have a theory about Trump's visit to Poland and with Putin. Poland and Russia are historical adversaries. I believe Trump is there to somehow unite them in alt right lock step. Across the former Iron Curtain countries, right wing governments and ideologies have been taking hold. The very thought is horrifying.
The perplexing part is the racist alt right, with their ideology embracing race theory, consider Eastern Europeans Untermenschen (inferior people). For Poland, Russia and the other Eastern European countries to embrace this ideology is mind boggling. These are the countries that fought the Nazis and this ideology in WWII suffering horrific loss. They are playing with fire and will likely get burned very badly.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,576 posts)could be that he can't see and is too vain to wear reading glasses. At 50 or thereabouts almost everybody has trouble with their close vision; SCROTUS is 71 and as far as I know he's never been observed wearing glasses. But he has been observed apparently having trouble reading. His extreme vanity compels him to dye and sculpt his hair to hide the gray and the bald spot; he uses some sort of fake-tan product that turns his face orange, presumably to look "healthy" (if you call orange a healthy color) and to hide the wrinkles, spots and blemishes you get as you age. I'm thinking his reading problem could have to do with the fact that he won't wear glasses.
