(58,785 posts)Not that this is new to him, of course.
"The Russian lawyer invited to the Trump Tower meeting, Natalia Veselnitskaya, is best known for mounting a multipronged attack against the Magnitsky Act, an American law that blacklists suspected Russian human rights abusers. The law so enraged Mr. Putin that he retaliated by halting American adoptions of Russian children.
The adoption impasse is a frequently used talking point for opponents of the Magnitsky Act. Ms. Veselnitskayas campaign against the law has also included attempts to discredit its namesake, Sergei L. Magnitsky, a lawyer and auditor who died in under mysterious circumstances in a Russian prison in 2009 after exposing one of the biggest corruption scandals during Mr. Putins rule.
Ms. Veselnitskaya is married to a former deputy transportation minister of the Moscow region, and her clients include state-owned businesses and a senior government officials son, whose company was under investigation in the United States at the time of the meeting. Her activities and associations had previously drawn the attention of the F.B.I., according to a former senior law enforcement official."

(7,408 posts)Remember the book Clinton Cash a couple of years ago? The Clinton Foundation took millions from Russian nationals and Bill Clinton received $500,000 a speech from Russian financial firms while Hillary was SoS. The Republicans were in a tizzy over it.

(9,412 posts)staggering in my opinion, and what we see in the media are just teasers compared to what Mr Mueller and his team must have already found. Six months from now I can only imagine how many 100s of meetings and connect the dots relationships there will be to feast on. The Orange Douche and his family are in for an ass whoopin' of historic proportions IMO.

(18,625 posts)They are asked under oath specifically if this kind of thing happened.
They say no, absolutely, we never did that.
They are given top security clearances.
It is later revealed they lied under oath and did exactly what they said they didn't.
The incident is put to rest and every thing continues as it this never happened.
There are no consequences at all for any of the criminal, lying Trump tramps and I'm not sure there ever will be.
Republicans in Congress seem perfectly content having a criminal mob family running the country and their party.

(12,882 posts)of the GOP is that ink-spewing executive pen in Dump's desk drawer. They really don't care WHO has command of that writing tool, so long as they're willing to use it to give our country to the wealthy. Nothing else matters but how that pen is used or abused.

(9,865 posts)....is that the meetings were not "campaign related". They "didn't talk about" the election. They talked about.....oh, you know, TV ratings or something.
Doesn't that hair-split (lie) allow them to get off the legal hook?

(464 posts)which included the former Wendy Murdoch, who was said to be Putin's girlfriend. If Wendy did occupy such a role, she would have had "bodyguards" who would have been intelligence agents as well. The timing for exchanging information with foreign agents at that time would fit with this scenario. This would just be a follow-up meeting. More dots in the chain. May be time to get more popcorn.

(4,341 posts)a South American country where day after day news about collusion with Cuba kept running around the media, proofs of conspiracy against the country, more than enough fact-checked documentation to get rid of the regime that had just taken power, but no one did anything about it, not sure if they thought that it would go away by itself, and they never did anything to stop the hurricane that was coming. The country is in ruins right now, no food, no medicine, political prisoners all over the place, a militia running rampant, politicians and high rank military filling up their pockets with the treasury of the country while the lives of the citizens worsen every day.
It all started by bringing "professionals" from Cuba to help the poor, and if the news of the Trump administration giving visas to Russian spies is true, I am sure they will disguise them as "exchange professional help" and those people will work so fast to dismantle what is good in this country that people will not know it happened until it is on top of them.
I am fed up of reading/listening to all these proofs and see that no real action to stop it is made. Has the president of the USA too much power? What is going on? If anyone thinks that what has happened in South American countries cannot happen to the USA, well you are very wrong, bad things happen very quickly, and unless Trump and his cohorts are taken out of power people in the USA are going to be surprised, and it won't be a good surprise.
If you think Donald Trump suddenly happened, then wake up, the Republican party has been working on this for a long time, none of it is by chance or because a buffoon suddenly decided to run for office. Remember Norquist saying that all the republican party needs is (my translation) "a monkey who can use a pen"? well, this is planned. These people are greedy for money, and they don't care what the "means to that end" is, if they screw the USA or not, an example is Putin, screwing up Russia for personal profit.
The current USA situation is worse than many people think, and it will affect the rest of the World. I don't think the World can stand a WW3.

(28,252 posts)I'm getting so tired of various members the trump family doing whatever the hell they please, without any evident political or legal consequences. Robert Mueller has hired yet another hot-shit attorney for his staff? SO FUCKING WHAT? Let's see some tangible, punitive action, while there's still some of this country to salvage.

(1,142 posts)There's a connection to the Maginsky case through this Russian Lawyer and this was all tied to Trump's firing of Preet Bharara who had been working on a case for three years that was just set to go on trial that would expose Russian mafia and money laundering in New York real estate, that was then mysteriously settled just after Preet was fired but before it went to trial.
