is like the Bible, you can use either one to support any view you choose.

the reality (freedom for everyone, not just you).

Symbols are easy to get emotional about, so they get that swell of emotion whenever they engage with one of their symbols. It's a dopamine thing, and it works on the deplorables very reliably.

Symbols also relieve the Deplorables of the dreary act of thinking about what the symbol represents.
