Rubio compares Trump’s plan to work with Putin on cybersecurity to ‘partnering with Assad on a Chemical Weapons Unit’

Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) was one of first out of the gate Sunday morning to blast President Donald Trump’s tweets promising to “partner” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, saying Trump might as well join forces with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

Sunday morning on Twitter, Trump placed the blame for meddling in the 2016 election on the Democrats, and stated, “Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded and safe.”

The Florida senator — who often battles with Trump before eventually backing down — took to Twitter to blast the president for choosing to work with Putin despite information from US intelligence agencies stating that Russia was behind the hacks.

“While reality & pragmatism requires that we engage Vladimir Putin, he will never be a trusted ally or a reliable constructive partner,” Rubio wrote before adding, “Partnering with Putin on a ‘Cyber Security Unit’ is akin to partnering with Assad on a ‘Chemical Weapons Unit.'” Rubio then accused Putin of “oppression, war crimes & interference in our elections.”
