How would it be possible to extend the Bush* tax cuts minus for those making over $250,000.

Without writing a completely new bill and getting it passed through Congress. I think it is going to be either all or nothing. Either the entire bill gets extended or it expires.. Democrats can write a new Tax Bill and try to get it passed in a Republican controlled Congress, and that might be a very good approach; it would get Republicans on record voting against tax cuts for 95% of Americans...There is no way they will allow a partial bill to be renewed, and I am not sure even how they could do that...Without a completely new bill we are going to witness another capitulation by Democrats, and that will do some real damage to the Democratic base, if there even is such a thing..

It's just election year bullshit. Nothing's going to happen until December. HopeHoops Jul 2012 #1
My understanding is that it has to be a new bill. Waltons_Mtn Jul 2012 #2

Even if they "extend them" it is still a new bill saying we push the termination date of these tax cuts back.

Because Boehner will never allow it to be voted upon in the House.

IMHO, it would be much better to let the Bush cuts expire _in toto_ and then introduce an under 250K tax relief bill, just to put the R's on the hot seat voting against a tax cut for ordinary people.

If it goes down that way, we'd even get the remaining teabaggers on our side in passing the cut.

Dems: Here's the new bill to keep reduced taxes but only on income up to 250k. Let's see you vote against that and explain it to the public!

Boehner: Here it is amended to include all incomes. Let's see you vote against that and explain it to the public!
