Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), a fierce opponent of the Senate healthcare bill, reportedly said she will kill the legislation if it comes down to her.
"I only see it through the lens of a vulnerable population who needs help, who I care about very deeply," she said during an interview with Politico that was published Sunday. "So that gives me strength. If I have to be that one person, I will be it."
Capito, who represents a state that President Trump won by large margins, reportedly expressed concern about the bill's impact on Medicaid recipients, especially those afflicted by the opioid crisis.
The West Virginia lawmaker also pointed to fears of lost coverage that could occur in her home state, the newspaper reported.

(6,916 posts)Which means she mostly doesn't care about 99% of Americans and instead listens to what the Koches and other billionaires say.
But this bill is so horrible and transparent perhaps she will oppose it.

(3,056 posts)If she sees this through their eyes, and cares so deeply, why is she not a solid "no"? Why is she hedging with the "if necessary" BS??? A bad bill is a bad bill, and will hurt your constituents, no matter how many of your fellow tools vote for it.

(10,495 posts)they changed their minds about it. It's one thing when is was poor, minorities, and the disabled, but now that they realize it's their ox being gored it is a different ball game!
Why haven't we heard this from her before? Why is she speaking out now? What i said above actually makes some sense.

(82,849 posts)And I think Democrats are in for our share of the blame for low-information voters not knowing that the ACA is the same thing as Obamacare. Our share, but certainly not the lion's share of the blame, which should still be laid at the feet of Republicans and their Fox megaphones.
As for Sen. Capito's strong statement, what it says to me is that she is at least vote number 4 against the Senate bill, which means she can say as many bad things about it as she can think of, because three other Republican senators are providing cover with firm, public statements of their "no" votes.

(38,414 posts)those who would cut Medicaid funds.. Further, at the link, she expresses concerns about......"vulnerable population"..that means poor and aged people.
"....fears of lost coverage...." that means some that have health insurance, won't have it..case closed.
This one seems to care about the people that she represents......So, she sees the sh*t bill for what it is..
a sh*t bill..that will hurt poor people and there are a lot of poor people in her state..
Now..here is one I didn't know about...her, and Collins, make 2...and what do you know...?
There is probably one more.....and that will be.....three.....and if Collins runs, then it does look like there are 2 more...but on this one, I don't think she will run...
Three, Three, Three.
means......
No sh*t bill will be....and Obamacare will remain the law !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got to add..............F**k McConnell.

(19,193 posts)to repeal it in one felled swoop, but they can dismantle it piece by piece, as they've already been doing. They're scaring some of the insurers away, and if there are no insurers......... Don't ever count the RepubliCONS out. They have a seemingly unending supply of dirty, underhanded tactics to get whatever they want. And if they don't have it, they'll just change all the rules until they do. It's what they do best.

(81,212 posts)There's actual tangible FEAR out there. I've never seen it like this. The closest might have been in the minutes after 9/11. But I've never seen this FEAR that's spread from coast to coast, because of what people's republi-CON representatives seem hellbent on doing.
I'm in my 60s. I've literally NEVER seen this before. The population - so fearful - because of what these CON jerks are doing.
