These are lands that have already been vetted and recognized as having exceptional beauty and scientific and cultural value
For what its worth, my comment mentioned the fact that the value of having these remain as pristine lands far exceeds the value of any coal gas or oil that may be extracted - tourism to our parks (from both US and abroad) is booming and will only increase.
Im sure you will find your own eloquent words though - its heartening to read that 1.3 million comments have been received and from what I can tell overwhelmingly (& in a non-partisan way) are in favor of keeping these as protected areas.

Woody Guthrie
Lyrics
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
And I went walking that ribbon of highway
And saw above me that endless skyway
I saw below me the golden valley
This land was made for you and me
I roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around meT, a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me
There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me
A sign was painted said: Private Property
But on the back side it didn't say nothing
This land was made for you and me

(33,310 posts)Don't want to be too cynical, but that's a straight up cold fact.
Every petition you sign, every comment you leave is just more Schadenfreude for him and rural Trumpists. Your taxes pave their roads and built the dams that irrigate their ranches and farms. Your visits make their lifestyles possible, and they hate you for it.
Trump WILL de-list several in the Intermountain West: Utah, Arizona, NM. Any place there's even a whiff of mineral rights to be claimed.
Welfare Ranching has never looked healthier than it does today. The Bundys are ascendant.

Me, I took the above wording/links and had fun SPAMMING my republican relatives with it - some of whom are less extremist than the others. I found it quite useful that here was one thing - love of outdoor recreation and our national public lands - that has the power to transcend petty political differences....to some extent.
Of course the damaged souls, the Zinkes of the world dont give a flying farkus. But some of my less extremist R-leaning sibs do.... at least the ones who still have enough independent thought process to be able to click on a National Geographic link and not discount or despise it as "leftist" or "liberal."
Maybe you dont find the bipartisan response to this heartening but I do. The psychology is this. Once an injustice (or a politicians lie, or whatever) hits you personally, then and only then are you more inclined to question other propaganda you are being fed. I found it very useful that i could say to my sibs, this is getting a bipartisan response.
Spoze you found a reason to not vote too - sigh.
