Curious as to why Donald Jr gave CNN a statement, since his dad labelled it Fake News HQ...

Is Don Jr. just stupid, or is he trying - subconsciously or otherwise - to sabotage Daddy and the preferred child, Ivanka, through her husband? That's a bit far-fetched, but the dynamics of that family have to be seriously fucked up.

It could be jealousy, stupidity, recklessness or attention-seeking. I think it's all of the above as well as as arrogance and a sense of invincibility.

Seems to me Don Jr. does nothing without first checking with his father. I very highly Don Jr. As going solo on this, especially consid Dr ing the fact that Jared and Manafort were also there.
