Because You Will Believe Anything

It was one of my late husband’s most-oft used phrases. He’d say it while watching TV evangelists promising health and prosperity in return for a small financial contribution, or hearing a pitchman hawk a miracle product guaranteed to clean your laundry, cure your arthritis, and make your teeth sparkle like never before.

“Because you’ll believe anything,” he’d say of those who fell for such bullshit. I can only imagine how many times he would have uttered that phrase while listening to Trump, and the Republicans who are desperately trying to spin the constant lies, the constant contradictions, the constant about-faces into something completely contrary to the known facts.

According to the GOP, we are expected to believe that there was no collusion between Trump, his team, his friends and associates, and his own family members and Russia.

We are expected to believe that ALL of the many, many meetings and communications between Trump operatives and Russian agents were completely innocent, and had nothing to do with collusion with a foreign power – an adversarial foreign power that was determined to ensure that Hillary Clinton would lose the election to the man who was openly sympathetic to Russian interests.

We are expected to believe that Trump’s closest allies have consistently “forgotten” their contacts/meetings with Russian operatives – to the point of committing perjury when asked about such contacts – and have merely had their memories “refreshed” when confronted with undeniable evidence of same.

We are expected to believe that a so-called “pResident” – who has lavished praise on Putin, while insulting and distancing the nation from our traditional allies – is not in-the-pocket of the man he stated he was “honoured to be with”.

We are expected to believe that Trump “confronted Putin” on his tampering with our election – tampering that Trump himself has strenuously denied ever happened – and then we are further expected to believe that Trump’s brilliant idea of joining forces with the man who tried to undermine our democracy is in the best interests of our nation, and will serve to curtail the actions we KNOW for a fact happened.

We are expected to believe that explanations proffered by Trump & Co for their behaviour – often contradictory and requiring several “corrections” as more facts surface – are as credible as accusations that Obama wiretapped Idiot Boy’s apartment with the assistance of our allies in the UK, or that Trump was robbed of a popular vote win because millions of “illegals” voted for HRC last November.

So who actually believes the endless, easily-debunked bullshit that comes out of the mouth of this “pResident” and his cohorts? The same people who send their social security cheques to multi-millionaire “preachers” who promise to cure their cancer in exchange for their financial sacrifice, the same people who think a self-declared “pussy-grabber” is a model Christian, the same people who believe the outsourcer-in-chief is going to bring their jobs back, the same people who believe the man who has repeatedly been proven to be a liar is a truth-teller, the same people who want their ACA coverage protected but want “Obamacare” repealed, the same people who think the many, many – MANY contacts between Trump and the Russians are mere coincidence.

“Because you’ll believe ANYTHING” doesn’t even come close to describing how gullible Trump supporters continue to be – nor does it describe how completely devoid of ethics Republicans who promote (a.k.a. aid and abet) are in acting as mindless shills for Putin’s ass-kissing bitch.

Eventually, the truth will out. And that truth gets closer to being revealed with every passing day. All that’s left is the fat lady singing – and when she finally does, it will be loud, unmistakable, and will drown-out the cries of the gullible who will later claim they had no idea what was really going on.

Hang tough, truth-seekers. Traitors will be outted, liars will be exposed, and heads will explode. It's just a matter of time.

Every time you think we are finally recovering, we get knocked down even more. I admit this is the worst so far, but I'm not sure this is bottom.

I think like your late husband. He was completely correct. BTW, Jim Bakker is back on television selling tubs of survival goods. Too many Americans are completely void of the ability to learn.

Let's hope with all our beings it doesn't come to THAT.

Or, if we really want to go down into the slime, a fascist dictatorship, world war and another Holocaust.

That would really be the bottom.

Again, let's hope that enough people in both parties remember they are Americans first and get rid of this treasonous bunch. Because it's the ENTIRE Trump 'administration' - virtually everyone with any power is tainted. Plus lots of the rank and file GOP functionaries in various states. If it goes the way it should, the way our founders set it up, then we'll impeach and try Trump, followed by Pence. Ryan may well be tainted as well, in which case it will be Orrin Hatch.

I grieve deeply that this has happened to the country I love, and that my father fought for in the Second World War. He didn't go slogging his way across the Pacific so some con man like Donald Trump could pollute the White House. Dad would roll in his grave. The whole Greatest Generation would. My Uncle is still alive and 97 years old. He too served this country in WWII, and he looks at Trump with utter disgust. As conservative as he is, and he's definitely a hard core establishment Republican, he has NOTHING good to say about Donald Trump.

"He's not MY president," he says in his reedy nearly century-old voice.

He's not MY president, either. Nothing but a disgusting, odious con-man who is completely out of his depth and will soon be forced from office for either treason or unfitness or both.

would see through this administrations lying bullshit. 45 supporters heads are devoid of grey matter which is why they lack independent thought. Hate to say it but we're in for one hellava ride if things don't change.

I not only want them all gone, I want them all jailed. The RICO charges being forged in New York State are inviolate, in that they cannot be pardoned. They are also unbelievably punitive, financially, to send a signal to other, would be criminals. Trust me--Preet Bharara will have the last laugh, as Trump languishes in prison before dying. And Trump's shaky empire will crumble upon the mirage it was built. Dust to dust--Karma really is a jealous bitch in the end!

steeped in bigotry and hatred. In short, they are immoral and Anti American. Pox News and hate radio have torn the nation asunder for political gain. I don't know the answer, but sincerely hope it doesn't come down to pitchforks torches and rope.

The Republicans will be right there, cutting her microphone cord.

SAD.

This isn't Watergate. Not this time. There are no morally solid men or women on the right who are going to stand up for America.

They're too busy laughing all the way to the bank.

I lived through Watergate, but I'm afraid this time the fix is in.

And am fully aware of how the political landscape has changed since then.

I do not believe that Republicans are the least bit interested in the country or its citizenry. But what they ARE interested in is the survival of their own "brand".

In the end, it will be the self-serving GOPers who will denounce Trump & Co - but only when defending him and his cohorts is no longer a viable option. And THAT day comes closer all the time.

Sen. Burr may be as close as we'll get to Howard Baker. That's enough.

I couldn't care less what reason a Puke gives for finally doing the right thing by turning against Trumpf.

They denied Hillary Clinton a presidency. She wasn't my candidate, but I voted for her. We were robbed. How do we remedy that?

They undermined President Obama and cheered as McConnell cheated him and the country out of a Supreme Court appointment. Now we have an illegitimate Court. How do we remedy that?

A terrible reckoning is coming for Republicans. They will deserve everything they get.

Lightly mocking their gullibility right to their faces and they still don't get it! One time he singled one guy out as a "true believer" and chuckled. And then there's his comment about killing someone and still getting their support. SMFH
