And Trump guarantees a full pardon as soon as he's indicted, or maybe even before, so there would be no trial or consequences.
They would all say it's of no importance and he's being pardoned to prevent an expensive, unnecessary trial.

It is a great distraction from everything else he's doing and doesn't directly involve Trump himself.

this is an effort to get ahead with the spin and damage control. I'm not saying it is a smart move. Smart and Trump just don't go together. I'm not sure they have thought far enough ahead to be considering a pardon. Thought and Trump also don't seem to be a match either.
