Republicans stand by him

By David Weigel July 11 at 6:37 PM

... As Republican senators moved around the Capitol .. they were asked .. whether emails released by .. Jr. revealed collusion between Russian interlopers and his father’s 2016 presidential campaign.

... they shrugged.

“That’s the very thing that we need to not be distracted by,” said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.). “He’s not given any particular assignment in the administration,” said Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) ...

Rush Limbaugh told listeners that he was “watching people lose their minds” because “they’ve got nothing.” On “Fox and Friends,” a morning show that the president watches regularly, co-host Brian Kilmeade asked Trump attorney Jay Sekulow if 2016 campaign veterans could vet themselves and release any more information about meetings with Russians, “so this drip-drip-drip doesn’t fuel other haters” ...

that Republicans will go down on anything their president does or says. They cannot be bothered to provide the Checks and Balances on the Executive Branch as long as their president goes along with them.

And ONLY then when the shit hits the fan and they see themselves going down the drain, will they step up. But by then, it will be too late.

Sen. Tillis and Sen. Hatch are apparently totally persuaded that the Russians have nothing on anyone in the White House or in the President's immediate family, and that all decisions and policy announcements out of the White House are free of any Russian influence.

They have a very different view of events from me.

If the base stops supporting him, so will the Republicans in Congress.

That's why they're the fucking base! It's a circular Fuck session. They support the evil shitheads, and the shitheads respond in likewise fashion.

If Drumpf went out and shot someone on the streets of NYC, his "base" would remain at 33%. If he was on trial for it, depending upon where he was tried, he could be acquitted.

The base is untouchable.

Trump is what he is, and there's nothing that can be done about him until 2020 or an impeachment which then means that the real problem is that the Republican party refuses to live up to their constitutional duty and put a check on Trump. Therefore, they need to be gone.

with foreign powers. The only limitation will be "cannot directly interfere with vote counting" - all other forms of coercion, manipulation, gerrymandering, voter supression, Social media targeting etc will be on the table. They will rationalize all of this with the argument that ultimately democracy only requires the accurate counting of votes that have made it into the ballot box.
