Not even Rachel. Not so much because of all the drop, flow, deluge. But because of the almost incomprehensible hypocrisy of the GOP. When a Democrat is in the White House or anybody with the name Clinton is anywhere in a position of authority either in or out of government, there is investigation after investigation after investigation. Remember the Rose Law Firm? How about Vince Foster's suicide? Whitewater? Email servers? Benghazi?
And then there is Paula Jones. She claimed sexual assault. Bill Clinton denied it. It was scheduled for trial. It was dismissed. Jones appealed the dismissal. They settled. End of story. And Monica and the blue dress. Which everyone agrees was a consensual affair instigated by Lewinski.
And the GOP howled for blood on every single one of these. How many hearings were there on Benghazi? And every one of them came up with 'nothing here'. How many hours went into the public hearings on Hillary's email server? Bill Clinton was impeached, for God's sake, for trying to sail a little too close to the wind when testifying about his relationship with Monica. And don't forget there was a Special Prosecutor named Ken Starr (who now says there is no need for a Special Prosecutor for Trump).
Trump refused to release his taxes, obey ethics standards, obey the Constution, lies all the time, he and his administration colluded with Russia to get him elected and have not stopped lying about it. And what is the GOP reaction?
Nothing to see here folks. The Democrats are just making stuff up and trying to make a mountain out of a nothingburger. Trump didn't do anything wrong. And they have the unmitigated gall to bring up Paula Jones as evidence against Hillary. Say what?? Remember how many women have sued Trump for sexual harassment/assault and Trump has settled out of court. He just goes on 'grabbing them by the pussy' 'none of the cases were proved'. Neither was Paula Jones (the case was dismissed and Clinton settled while the dismissal was being appealed.)
Trump sent Special Forces into Yemen where some 30 civilians, including women and children were killed and the GOP shrugs and moves on. The same GOP turns down the SecState's request for an increased budget for embassy security, an Ambassador goes to a 'Special Mission' in Benghazi (note not an Embassy), a riot breaks out, and the Ambassador is killed.
OMG! Hearing after hearing after hearing. How many hearings have there been about the Yemeni incursion?
If a Democrat does it, then we have to investigate what they did wrong. If Trump does it 'nothing to see here, just move along'. I want to know how many of those traitorous bastards are getting money funneled to them by the Russians and their allies? We already know McConnell is on the Russian payroll, how many others?
I weep for my country.

(5,506 posts)It feels like we are living in an alternative universe. Told a friend today, I'm ready to find another planet, or perhaps another country. I don't relish the idea of living in a dictatorship/rape culture.
My only hope is they are collecting enuf evidence to take down numerous, well-placed traitors. That connecting the dots is taking time.

i think it is very sad people have the need to flee this country because of all these fu*king assholes and the shit they do. and yet, some days i find it difficult to believe i haven't had a heart attack or stroke from all the crap/stress/pressure.

I just can't leave them, though. I love them too much.
My greatest regret is that we didn't move there when my son was a baby. I will always regret that. I have apologized to him for not moving. They would have had such a good life there.

(5,506 posts)They have a point system & our age works against us. My grandmother's family was one of the founding families of Canada, but not sure how I could prove it since the courthouse holding her birth records burned down over a century ago.

(12,051 posts)Unfortunately, my son cannot get his citizenship through me because I am considered a naturalized citizen, not a natural born citizen. We tried that already for him.
So your grandmother, but not your mother or father, was Canadian? That won't help, even if you could prove grandma's citizenship. So sorry!

(12,051 posts)citizenship through our mother. We were in our fifties when we found out. If we had known, my husband and I could have moved, as a young couple with a young child, and raised our child there. It bothers me to this day that we didn't investigate that more thoroughly. Of course, there was no such thing as internet back then, so you had to actually show up at/call an embassy to find out any details, and I never did. I regret it to this day. I feel that my son would have been sooooooo much better off growing up in Canada.

(15,074 posts)I feel the same way. Sometimes just have to go to the rescue barn where I volunteer and love on some horses. My greatest fear at this point is that 2018 is, as yet, unsecured. I attended our local Indivisible meeting on Sunday and will be more involved. Keep engaged as best as you can and have a cocktail when you can't.

(5,591 posts)daily, too.
We are living in a hideous nightmare and while day to day life goes on as best as possible, there is an unstated numbness that seems to permeate everything.
What could and should have been-but for the criminality and deceit that is proudly and rampantly practiced by men of disgusting character and billious morality- eats at everyone.
If it isn't dealing with the sheer anti-humanity of those disgusting men in power, it is the hate, bigotry, racism and misogyny that they enable in truly ugly Americans all over the country and Internet. None of it is even attempted to be hidden anymore.
As a nation we had made such positive strides under Obama. The hope, the hard fight towards equality and quality of life were moving slowly and firmly forward. It was always a fight against the god damn ugliness of Republicans and soulless conservatives threatened by open minds and color blindness and gender equality. But we were forging forward to try and right so many wrongs we, as a nation had still practiced since our "declarations".
And now THIS fucking backslide/nightmare all spawned from illegality, lies, pure hate and crimes and treason and unbelievable STUPID. It's evil and soul battering. ( and RUSSIA for all that is considered holy. Russia.)
I acknowledge that the wheels of justice turn slowly while forces of evil move at lightening speed to destroy that which is positive. But, I can't comprehend how sane men and women in power cannot/have yet to DO something about it.
The obvious crimes and treasonous acts have been so readily successful.
It eats away at the spirit.

(1,588 posts)The constant hitting with the news.
I found a balance.
I only watch so much news.
I do other things I enjoy.
The republicans want us to give up.
Trump and his republican gang are scared.
They want us to give up.
We can't.
This is our World War, whatever we want to call it.
Turn off news for a day or two.
We can all take turns.

(5,506 posts)keep up the fight. After all, 41 said "just let us take care of politics, just enjoy your life.", or something to that affect. Worked well for them, too.
However, things do not look hopeful right now. No other person on the planet has ever demonstrated such outrageous behavior & not been held accountable. Treason, admitted-sexual assault, & fraud, just to name a few. Republicans and the MSM are covering for him over & over. WHY? Even Dems are not shouting from the rooftops like they should be.
It's hard to have hope under those conditions.

(3,569 posts)Especially in the story about TRump not hiring Sessions if he knew he was going to recuse himself. Not one, national, or local, newsperson mentioned that it is stupid because of the timeline. (I only watch the free TV news.). TRump could not have known, nor could Sessions, until after he was appointed.

(6,916 posts)When 45 says he didn't want Sessions to recuse himself, he's saying he doesn't want to be subject to the rule of law.
Our republic stands on the rule of law. A major difference between US democracy and autocracy or dictatorship is -- the rule of law.
Why aren't journalists saying this? Jake Tapper is tweeting today he's worried about right wing hit jobs directed at him.

(3,569 posts)Just saying he couldn't do that would be enough. I'd never expect them to go all the way. Not after Bush and their parroting the Obama Kenyan stories.

(131 posts)I took about two months off of reading the news recently and just came back the other day. After getting back up to speed, I thought that perhaps I'd somehow awakened in some bizarre alternate universe or something, where everything is reversed and sanity isn't what's normal anymore. The horrible thing is that instead of compartmentalizing each story for safety as I got back up to speed on the news, my mind synthesized all the stories into some sort of "big picture". Don't let that happen. It makes things worse.
I keep trying to tell myself that they're like vampires, they can't come in unless you invite them. But then curiosity gets the better of me and I have to go have one more slack-jawed peek at the train wreck. But it's like digital syrup of ipecac. Why do I do it?
Lately, I've been wondering if you can vape model airplane glue. I was sort of hoping that something like that might sever my link to reality. But I don't know how to vape, what you use, or anything, and it occurred to me that the glue is probably too volatile to respond well.
So I guess I'm stuck. Eventually I'll read something that will cause a blood vessel to rupture in my brain and that will be that. And more time off from the news scares me. I'm afraid that if I take another couple of months off from paying attention, when I come back they'll be feeding kittens to alligators by the shovelful on TV and blaming Democrats as they shovel or something and nobody will even care.
I've finally settled on fervently hoping that the Tralfamadorians will come get me and take me to their zoo. It's the best I can do for a solution with all that's whizzing past my horrified eyes.
