House Intelligence Committee ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) pointed to a canceled Trump speech during the campaign that was supposed to be about Clinton at around the time Trump Jr. was meeting with Russians as a possible indication that Trump knew about Russia collusion.
House Intelligence Committee ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) pointed to a canceled Trump speech during the campaign that was supposed to be about Clinton at around the time Trump Jr. was meeting with Russians as a possible indication that Trump knew about Russia collusion.
Schiff listened to Trumps lawyer appear before him on ABCs This Week and said:
What I take away from his discussion with you is two things. Two points he wants to make. First, the President didnt know, and second, even if he did, theres no crime here. Now, to believe that though we have to rely on two things. We have to rely on Don Jr.s representation of what happened in that meeting, and weve already seen many times, of course, we cant rely on that because first, he said no such meeting ever happened, and then he said the meeting was about adoptions, and then he admitted that the meeting was about getting information on Hillary Clinton, and then he wasnt forthcoming about who was in the meeting, so we cant accept anything Don Jr. says, and of course, we cant accept much that the President says about this either because he has a similar record of not being forthcoming when it comes to Russia.
And indeed, if you look at the Presidents statements around this time, he announces a speech hes going to give where he is going to give the dirt on Hillary Clinton that he then cancels. Now that would corroborate that Don Jr. didnt get the information he was hoping for, but of course, it contradicts the idea that he was unaware.

(12,448 posts)It's a long shot, but he's poised, smart and articulate. And a good DEMOCRAT. He'd definitely get my support and of course my vote. I'd be happy to volunteer for his campaign.

(714 posts)It's a tough though, because I've been following Ted Lieu, and if it wasn't the natural born citizen thing keeping him from running, I would have looked at him to be a presidential contender. But Schiff has been a lion for a while now.

(14,300 posts)I like him a lot. He is calm and measured, like Obama. I don't see him having the rockstar appeal that made Obama's presidency possible. Although he is presidential, I don't see him getting in except as someone flashier's VP, then ascending. Sad, but that's politics now.
But he is a brilliant legal mind and we certainly need him in the House or Senate.

Sources with links to the intelligence community and the justice department report that Donald Trump himself is on tape calling in to a meeting at Trump Tower, where collusion with Russians was discussed.
Sources could not confirm, however, that the meeting where collusion in the election was discussed was the one at which his son, Donald J Trump Jr, recently admitted to conspiring with Russians to hack the election.
They pointed out that there was more than one meeting at Trump Tower where attacking the integrity of the US election was discussed by Trump campaign officials and representatives of the Russian government.
The source of the recording of Mr. Trump was his campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Mr. Trumps campaign chairman. His phone had been legally hacked by the United States intelligence community ..................

(115,669 posts)This makes no sense. First she says Trump is on "tape" (there is no "tape" any more) calling in to the meeting, then she says Manafort was the source of the "tape" because his phone was legally "hacked" (phones are not "hacked" , turning it into a hot mic that recorded the whole meeting. (This is technically possible, but unlikely to have occurred in Trump Tower because it requires the installation of a separate, miniature cell tower or transmission device that signals the phone to look like it's been switched off but it's on, using the microphone. http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/06/technology/security/nsa-turn-on-phone/index.html.)
But how could Manafort be the "source" of the alleged "tape" of his phone, supposedly acquired through a FISA warrant?
Once again, the article contains a lot of speculation and a lot of cloak-and-dagger buzzwords, but if the allegation had any substance it would be on the front page of the New York Times, not in this goofy little hobby blog.

It's amazing to me how quickly a Democrat loses all credibility for the least transgression, but Republicans are given a second, third, fourth bite at the apple, as if none of the previous out-and-out lies count for anything. "Oh, this time for sure he's telling the truth! No? Well, let's give him one more chance. He's just a 39-year-old babe in the woods, unaccustomed to these byzantine 'rules' about the truth."

(5,810 posts)and fails one more time to be forthcoming with truth, it should be no surprise that anything this person says is suspect. With the tRump bunch, you must listen to every single word because often the truth is hiding in plain sight. Or there is a contradiction. But never, ever do they say the whole, unvarnished truth. I look forward to the day when they must testify, under oath, about their deeds and misdeeds. I want to see them sweat, although I imagine that tRump, Sr. being the accomplished liar in chief, will be smooth as silk, cool as a cucumber because lying is his second language.
I am glad there is an Adam Schiff involved because he, too, is calm but determined to get to the facts, the unvarnished truth every bit as much as tRump is determined to deny it and try to keep it hidden.
