John McCain, a republican senator, needed health care?

(30,058 posts)the edge and opportunity to make a better decision. Also a possibility is McConnell may be going to stage a vote which fails to repeal ACA and tell Trump he could not get this accomplished. This bill has a very low approval rate, it is going to be difficult to take away health care after we have gotten used to having it. If ACA is not perfect then Congress can set about getting some fixes, repealing it is not a fix.

(3,447 posts)...why we don't use this precedent to forestall indefinitely? My dad used to watch this old football video incessantly, and I remember from it that in one of the first Super Bowls a player 'faked' an injury to get a timeout when his team didn't have any. I remember something about a Hammer, so I'm guessing that was the guy's nickname. Anyways, if we have precedent to hold off a vote because of health care, why not push the angle with needed health care of our own? I'm downright sure we have SOMEONE who needs some healthcare, and as old as our leaders are, it shouldn't be difficult to keep that up for 4 years or until they get their head from their asses.
If nothing else it gives us even more optics that they Republicans are "For me and not for thee", and that means more voters from undecided and/or weak former Trump voters. Just a thought off the top of my head, so if you see a big glaring flaw lemme know please.

We can't use the "injury time out" to our advantage. The Republicans are not delaying the vote as a courtesy to McCain- they are doing it because they don't have enough votes for passage without him. They probably also don't have the needed votes with him but the delay gives them a chance to keep hammering away at the "moderate" Republicans.

Of McCain's situation. He receives Mayo Clinic care paid for by the taxpayers, while the Repug Senators wait to vote to deny a modicum of the same coverage to those same taxpayers.
