I joined this website two days ago. Within the time of posting, replying, and starting discussion threads I have gotten more out of it than over two years of watching television and looking on the internet about the election. This is a great website.

Yep...things surface here way before it hits the mainstream media (MSM).

Many times things are posted that at the time may not be a red flag but then months later you see things start making national news and you go "hmmm...there was a piece to this puzzle a while back posted on DU"---either something you posted yourself or info posted by others.

Honestly, I think that's why they wanted us shut down on Election Night...whoever did it was trying to stifle all of the crowdsourcing that is done here when repubs are up to no good..get enough local or regional reports from DU'ers' neck of the woods that is not on national media yet and things get exposed pretty damn quickly.

30. I was devastated when the site was hacked the day of the election and I couldn't

see how others were dealing with this honor. I read NYT and WaPo daily, but still get a LOT of my information from this site. There are some really knowledgeable and savy folks here. I've been here since the first days of the BFEE and have seen ups and downs. During the primaries, it can get pretty heated, but afterwards mostly everyone comes together to support our Democratic candidate.

I've been a member for 15 years, which is kind of hard to believe. There's a lot of good information here, and several brilliant thinkers and writers. And plenty of comfort and inspiration in dark times.

You'll probably find, as I do, that sometimes you need a break from this place, because it can drive you crazy. But, if you're like me, you won't be able to stay away for long.

People here make the effort to find the facts and some go beyond sharing information and explain the facts when it is an area of expertise for them. And since there is a lot of expertise in all manner of subjects here on DU, that is no small thing.

People here help each other too.

One of the greatest things about the members of DU is that they care and they will do anything they can to help other members in need.

If only to lend a shoulder and an ear. I could not have gotten through my cancer and treatment without some very special people on DU.

I've been here since the early days and I keep coming back because of that level of quality - in the site, but more especially - in the members.

I hope you find a home here and come to know and love the place as much as I do.
