The governor gets to appoint an interim. I don't know who Doug Ducey is going to make as an interim, but whoever they are, they have a thankless job.

Boycott Coldstone Creamery, fyi. He owns it.

(15,374 posts)I'm ambivalent on whether or not he bounces back. McCain's career in congress has been more negative than positive for the United States. He shouldn't have survived the Keating Scandal, but he did, and he continued to inflict himself on us.

(53,743 posts)It was only a matter of time. Since the last election didn't get him out, something else was bound to.
He stayed at the party way too long.

(135 posts)I never got all the ineffective boycott fads that pop up from time to time.

(25,141 posts)boycott Koch products. They own asphalt. Do I boycott roads? They make generic store brand paper products. They own oil companies, but I've never seen Koch gas stations. They own fertilizer companies, but I've never seen Koch fertilizers. I heard they were sponsors on NPR, do I boycott the program? (Actually a letter writing campaign maybe could work for their NPR and PBS support, but both medias are hurting)
Boycotting Exxon is also complicated: They make jet fuel.

(8,166 posts)But, what the heck, my liberal boss shops at hobby lobby. People don't boycott because they want to buy everything and a slight savings and they don't give a crap who those vile business owners support or what they're doing to our country.

(22,976 posts)It initially was acquired by a holding company, Kahala; later, the Ontario, Canada-based Serruya family bought a controlling interest in the holding company, which still owns Cold Stone.

(111,168 posts)and the old goat will be back in a week or two. It sounds like he banged his head on something, not that there was a significant bleed.
It would be nice if he didn't go back, though. Maybe AZ could dig up an appointment who wasn't as addled as their usual fare.
Then again, they'd probably yank J. D. Hayworth out of his media job and send him. Ugh.

(1,473 posts)I get that the AZ gov can put in a temp and then have a special election if he dies or resigns. But what do they do if he's incapacitated and not able to execute the duties of office?

(62,444 posts)Arizona provides for recall elections of its senators.
As you may remember in connection with Gabby Giffords, incapacity is not some sort of bar to retaining one's seat in Congress.
Unsurprisingly, given that election of public officials is fairly important, there are few ways to remove an elected official from office without the voters having some say in the matter.
VermontKevin
(1,473 posts)think there would have to be a recall election? Would a new Senator be chosen then? Or would there be a recall, interim Senator, then new election?
