(9,895 posts)That is a verbatim quote of the nonsense he was spouting last week and the same talking points that are circulating first the right wing media and now the cowardly corporate press as well.
Someone needs to ask him - ON CAMERA - why his administration position has moved from 1) Nothing happened...FAKE NEWS!!! to 2) Nothing happened with Russian GOVERNMENT....FAKE NEWS!!! to 3) Nothing happened with Russian government with CAMPAIGN STAFF....FAKE NEWS!!! .... to 4) Well, a meeting took place, but it was about Russian adoptions... FAKE NEWS!!! ... to 5) Don Jr. was only doing what ANYONE ELSE would have done...FAKE NEWS!!!
Pin that slimy motherfucker down and refuse to give him ANY PRESS about ANYTHING ELSE until he personally appears and answers these questions:
1) Why does your administration scream "FAKE NEWS" only to time and again have to retract, restate or amend you own positions?
2) If that is "FAKE NEWS", are you then in no small measure the "President Who Cries Wolf?"
3) Given your administration, your campaign and your family proclivity for prevarication, why should ANYONE believe ANYTHING that you or they say?

(58,627 posts)It's the "Big Lie" strategy popular with autocrats throughout history.
Tell big lies, tell them often, tell them over and over until everybody believes them.
Worked for Hitler and Goebbels.

(9,670 posts)When the elements of collusion are established, the incessant tweets and statements that "everyone does it" will be prima facie evidence of his intent, in that his misinterpretation of the law induced him to proceed with the very acts forming the basis of a future indictment.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse, particularly for a man running for the highest office in the land.

(7,768 posts)The Russians in attendance KNOW who was there, so that means BFF Pootie knows!
Did Orange-ass just happen to drop by? Did he call in on a speaker phone? Was Manafort recording the entire meeting? Were the Russians wired?
Does Pootie have Donald's nuts in a vice with even MORE 'goodies' to blackmail him with?
I'll bet there's more to come and HOORAY for the Press that's doing the digging and reporting!

(5,810 posts)He is defining what normal is so his base will accept the things he does. Like nepotism, breaking laws (emoluments) and open defiance of long standing rules/laws regarding relationships with foreign representatives. He boldly does these things and relies on his relative newness to politics as an excuse. Then he goes to the "everybody does it" line without a shred of evidence that it is true. Will his base bother to check? Nope. He has spoken and they eat it up. Their hero has the guts to break the rules and they like it.
Now the rest of us are not so enthused at his antics. We know what he is up to but so far have not figured out a way to bring the base up to speed on the tactics tRump is using on them. He is playing them with age old psychological games. He lies without shame. He gaslights anyone who hears him. He tells us down is up and the sky is lime green. No back talk allowed. Just nod in agreement and let him line his pockets. It will take the base a while longer to catch on to his games and some will never "get it".
But the tide IS turning and no matter how much he commands us to follow him, buh-leave him, he will lose enough followers to matter. His arenas will not be filled until they have an overflow crowd outside. Sales of MAGA hats will dwindle. The dedicated few will carry their signs and cheer but to a smaller and smaller audience.
I think tRump will never accept that his flaming star is nearing burn out. Those of us who have been living through this nightmare welcome the day when he is a smoldering ash on the rock pile of history. I just hope the damage he has done in his short term can be repaired or undone so we can put this trauma behind us. Gone but not forgotten.

(28,136 posts)...in order to undermine democracy...yeah...anyone would do that....

(23,083 posts)Anyone would have taken that information from any anonymous person, but this wasn't anonymous, it was stated as coming directly from the highest levels of the Russian government. Coincidentally, that same day, Drumpf said they would have major news that they were just finding out about and would release it in a week. So, no, they didn't get nothing. Also, it was reported the Russian woman left a large envelope of information for them. I'd like to think that no one else would meet with a representative of a hostile foreign government, only the oh so crooked and lying drumpfs and their minions.

(7,524 posts)There's a difference between obtaining info on an opponent legally and correctly and obtaining info on an opponent from an enemy, who is likely going to want something in return that is going to compromise your loyalty to the United States.
