Drunk driver and a Republican nightmare

There's not a hair's-width difference between riding with my drunken father when I was a kid and experiencing this current cuntry-wide Republican nightmare as an adult. Both are frightening and I didn't choose either one.

Screw the stop signs, let's see how fast we can go, ignore the empty gas tank, open this bottle for me, and if we crash....just say you were driving.

Republicans treat Trump exactly like my father treated the drunk ass who always wanted me to sit on his lap, always showed up with a case or two, always put their drinking ahead of anything needing critical attention. It didn't matter that the family was being destroyed, it didn't matter that kids who needed food, heat and medicine didn't get any, it didn't matter that every day there was some new chaos to deal with. All that mattered to my father was that this irresponsible, untrustworthy guy could be counted on to show up, encourage recklessness, condemn any naysayers, and go along with whatever plan shirked responsibility and benefited the wreckers.

The situation this country is in goes well beyond simple politics. We're in the grasp of reckless, dangerous, unprincipled people who couldn't care less who or what they destroy as long as they have their way. I don't care how many flag pins Republican "leaders" wear, they're unAmerican. They're joyful over this notion of shutting down the "deep state", even if that means taking food from hungry children, making voter registration more difficult, eliminating war crime watchdogs, speaking out against a free press, praising dictators, objectifying women, lying as a normal mode of operation, laughing about climate change, encouraging discrimination and racism, the list is endless. These are perilous times indeed.

Somehow, we have to set aside any hurt, anger, and bitterness resulting from the 2016 election and find a way to unite against the ongoing destruction of everything we value. This is dead serious.
