(11,097 posts)the difference I hope for between the Democrats and the GOP is that the Democrats are grown-ups. Right wing hysteria and hyperbole should not be emulated because it is too easily dismissed as hysteria and hyperbole.
We Democrats are (or should be) too smart to be tripped up on a word. No, nothing that Trump and his cabal have done is treason. Yes, it's not treason because we're not at war with Russia. However, Trump and his flunkies are disloyal - Un-American - Russian toadies - pick your word - just not treason.

(11,097 posts)it's not enough that the hacking was an attack.
Article III, Section 3 of the US Constitution: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
Since we are not at war with Russia, Trump cannot be guilty of treason for helping Russia in its attack on the US election. It was disloyal, it was a violation of campaign laws, it was probably a violation of the Espionage Act, it was also probably a violation of RICO, etc. For the US to charge Trump with treason would be tantamount to a declaration of war against Russia.
Contrary to the earlier response, I am not making excuses for Trump. I am looking forward to his impeachment and the jailing of as many of his cabal as possible. All I am saying is that we do not need to give ammunition to the wingnuts by misusing important words. We don't need hyperbole - the hard, cold facts are enough. It adds nothing to call what Trump did treason. It is more than enough to say that it was at least disloyal and probably criminal.

(60,071 posts)I was Morse intercept in the 60's. The battlefield has changed. Back then our weapon was an R-390A , a telegrapher's mill, and a field of doppler antennas sitting on top of an extinct volcano.

(11,097 posts)I jumped to the wrong conclusion from the photo of a Navy typewriter.
No libel intended. I feel terrible for assuming a soldier was a squid.
