KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine A large dead fish believed to be a basking shark washed ashore on Ocean Avenue between St. Annes Church and the Bush family summer compound at Walkers Point Monday morning.
Grounds crews at St. Annes Church noticed the large heavily decayed carcass on the rocky beach north of St. Annes early Monday morning, according to Kennebunkport Town Manager Laurie Smith.
She said officials from the Maine Department of Marine Resources identified the fish as a basking shark. Adult basking sharks can weigh as much as 4,900 pounds and be well over 20 feet long, according to the New England Basking Shark & Ocean Sunfish Project.
This ones bigger than a vehicle. Its huge, Smith said.

"I'm confident that it'll work," he said, while admitting to some uncertainty over how much dynamite to use.
Predictably, the press published the perfect purple prose
"The blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds."
