Reports indicate that Jared Kushner wanted James Comey fired but Steve Bannon said, "You can't fire the FBI."

Who do you think gave Trump better advice? If Trump hadn't fired Mr. Comey, there wouldn't be a special investigation into TrumpWorld.

If Trump were to fire Special Counsel Mueller, do you think Trump would continue to have any support in Congress? Would Steve Bannon support such an incendiary action?

In fact, Trump cannot fire Mr. Mueller. He can only order the Assistant Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein, to fire Mr. Mueller. (Remember, Attorney General Sessions has recused himself from Russian issues.) Should Mr. Rosenstein refuse to do so, Trump could fire him and work his way down the hierarchy to find a craven sycophant to do Trump's bidding. This would be a foolish course and only throws fuel on the fire of the Trump administration.

By the way, when Nixon ordered the firing of Archibald Cox, the special prosecutor in the Watergate case, the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General quit in protest. Nixon had to go to his Solicitor General, the third-in-line, to find a willing subordinate: Robert Bork. How'd that work out for him?

If you were in Trump's circumstances, would you fire the investigator? Probably not. Of course, you wouldn't be in Trump's precarious circumstances. But what would a rational-- but criminal-- person do in such a situation?

Of course, Trump is not rational.

He's an idiot.

Trump is setting the table to either accept the resignations or to fire the two top guys at Justice. In my opinion, he has probably already asked them if they would fire Meuller and got an answer that was not satisfactory to him and hence the NYT article. He would prefer a resignation and is giving a fake reason to distance himself from the real reason. Just my opinion.

I asked them before he was elected if they would be Patriots and turn on him at the appropriate time and they weren't necessarily having any of it obviously, but let's see if they are Americans or traitors.

what happens when he fires Mueller?

It'll make him look guilty as fuck, which he already does & of course is, and he must be in full-blown panic mode now that the investigation has turned personal- but from an investigative standpoint, what happens then?

So far, few, if any, Cons have shown interest in putting country before party. They have abetted and endorsed every vile, despicable word and action of the temperamental traffic conehead.

Seems no behavior is too low for them. When does the serious condemnation and action start? Concerned and troubled isn't going to cut it.

drumpf should resign....but then, on second thought - that would open up drumpf and family to actual criminal charges if it is found to be criminal...so I just talked myself out of drumpf resigning....unless, drumpf pardons et al before resigning.....

run around in circles as drumpf would wish all of us to do....I will research your question, however..

here you go, for what it is worth on the run..

Yep. In 1866, the Supreme Court ruled in Ex parte Garland that the pardon power "extends to every offence known to the law, and may be exercised at any time after its commission, either before legal proceedings are taken, or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment." (In that case, a former Confederate senator successfully petitioned the court to uphold a pardon that prevented him from being disbarred.) Generally speaking, once an act has been committed, the president can issue a pardon at any time—regardless of whether charges have even been filed.

In answer to the question - grant pre-emptive pardons for officials involved in counterterrorism programs. Wait—can a president really pardon someone who hasn't even been charged with a crime?

Sorry - I am living in an upside down world -

I wonder if it holds if they deny doing it as we can expect. Of course, it will be proved otherwise, but it is in their blood to deny, deny, deny.

I don't really care, whatever he tweets about it will in insincere, but he should be saying something. President Obama sent out a very respectful tweet about it.
