Looks to me he's frustrated at the fact Sessions' primary purpose to him was essentially neutered.
He viewed Sessions strictly as a get out of jail free card, someone who would put the kibash on any personal investigation of him.
I think he really thought Sessions was supposed to be his own personal attorney.

(44,894 posts)Sessions recused because of his conflicts working on the Trump campaign (and likely, the Russia conspiracy). Of course Trump knew of all these conflicts... he was responsible for them.
