Trump to republican Senators: No summer vacation for you unless you pass my bill

Forget for a moment that within the past 24 hours, Trump has changed from repeal-and-replace, just repeal, let-Obama-care-die, and back to repeal-and-replace.

Trump "ordering" Congress (House too) to stay put in the uber-muggy D.C. swamp until they have a bill for him to sign is toothless and laughable.

First, even if the Senate (and the House) respected his directive, they will watch the leader of their party get in his helicopter and AF#1 to go golfing while they cobble together the same bill (theme-and-variation) to pass. (It won't.)

Second, Mitch McConnell already mused that he would subtract two weeks from August recess to work on outstanding matters. Trump adds no weight to McConnell.

Next, Trump reminds me of my father at dinner, threatening no dessert if I didn't eat my beets. You don't win votes by taking away something someone wants. You may feel like a CEO, a Tsar, but you won't build alliances which is the only way to get things done in D.C.

Next, you have two sub-parties within your party. You have a choice of satisfying the majority of conservatives or the minority of rabid movement conservatives (Tea Party). And in the larger picture, if you go with the Tea Party, you're allowing a sliver, a minority of the country dictate to the rest of the country. That's not democracy. (You won't let that fact keep you up at night.)

Finally, the true-believers in the republican majority of the Senate are disgusted to be ordered to give the President *anything* to sign. He doesn't care what it is. Give him his "win". Bragging rights for keeping another campaign promise.

This incident just demonstrates that you could have all the ducks lined up (two branches of government in alignment), but you can't get anything done.
