Stress causes a lot of cognitive resources to go into evaluating stress and the stressor, sorting out possible solutions to the stress, finding coping mechanisms for the stress. All that adrenalin and cortisol, bad for the ol' brain's logical and straightforward functioning.

Shoved to one side is the topic at hand even if the person has to continue to deal with that topic. Then, on top of all of that, the person has to take the propositions and other content and put it into lexical form and shove it out in the form of words.

Really high cognitive load in that kind of situation. So when under stress, people mistakes all the time, by dropping words or them, um, putting them in strange, uh, cont-.... places.

Some dysfluencies are probably audience centered. Some, most certainly speaker-centered.
