https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/7/21/16011438/voxcare-cbo-director-letterTop Republican legislators have spent months now attacking the Congressional Budget Office. House Speaker Paul Ryan derided the agency's Obamacare numbers as "bogus," speaking to reporters at an event in Massachusetts Thursday.
The CBO directors are fighting back. All eight signed on to a letter Friday to raise a "strong objection to recent attacks on the integrity and professionalism of the agency."
The letter continues:
Relying on CBOs estimates in the legislative process has served the Congress and the American people very well during the past four decades. As the House and Senate consider potential policy changes this year and in the years ahead, we urge you to maintain and respect the Congresss decades-long reliance on CBOs estimates in developing and scoring bills.
This is the first time, I'm told, that all eight former directors have signed on to a joint letter. The group includes those appointed by Republicans and Democrats. The former directors have kicked around the idea of a letter for the past month or so, as they watched the attacks mount from the sidelines. They made a decision to write this letter about a week ago.

(367 posts)It's got to be difficult to adequately perform your job AS WELL AS make the facts known. And that's what is counted on, people who know the facts and can effectively acknowledge facts are assumed to not have time. Make the time, in the name of liberty for all.

(16,923 posts)considering that they know (they're "math" people, you know!) that 35% of the American population will not believe whatever they say!
We must back and support this VERY important and significant group - YOU GO - CBO!!!!!!!! (WOW! - that could be a chant at a rally!).

(367 posts)I feel the unity of their voices gives credence to their message. And 35% will not believe it no matter what type of package it arrives in. But the more people who join, unify and stick to their message is going to be heard by those seeking to hear. Those who aren't listening for facts wouldn't recognize them rolling over the top of them!
I think it's important to focus on getting messages out because people are seeking information. Those are the ones who will be receptive.
