John McCain has never wore a flag pin on his lapel

said Mark Shields on the PBS NewsHour.

Good for McCain. I remember when Obama got flak for not wearing one during the 2008 campaign.

And he probably could not wait to take it off last Jan. 20..

It is a symbol often worn without any true meaning or affiliation. Many who wear such "symbols" are the biggest hypocrites around.

It is funny how they think a flag pin makes them patriotic or a good American, and that anyone who doesn't also have such a shallow view must hate the country.

And as much as I hate his politics and think his world view is fucked up, the man loved his country and was a patriot.

And Most post on DU since his diagnosis have echoed my sentiments even though some of our members cannot bring themselves to be so generous, which I respect.

I went to freeperville which is one of the major republican sites. They are literally hoping he burns in hell. The most hateful things I have ever read.

I am now convinced that if Trump goes, there will be violence. Most of those guys are blowhards, but I am sure a few of them are nut jobs waiting to start shooting people.

I think that Stephanopoulo asked him about it.

I think it was former Iowa senator Harkin who was talking about the ones wrapping themselves in the flag.
