If President Trump fires Robert Mueller, we're headed for a constitutional crisisby Doyle McManus 7-23-17
President Trump has openly declared war on Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating the Russian saga. The president clearly wishes he could fire Mueller; his associates say hes mused about that for weeks. Now, by stepping up the pressure, hes moving toward a showdown, and a possible constitutional crisis.
Theres plenty of other craziness billowing from the White House: lawyers considering whether the president can pardon himself, the president publicly denouncing his attorney general for failing to protect him. But the clearest portent of a crisis is the presidents increasingly evident desire to be rid of the meddlesome prosecutor, who appears to be doing his job too well.
The trigger: Muellers investigators have reportedly begun looking for evidence of Trump family business deals with Russians deals the president says never existed.

They're faced with the choice of doing their duty and being loyal to our nation, or pissing off their traitorous, racist, dumbass base.

The whole constitutional crisis thing is hype. The constitution has a remedy and it is congress. We might have a crisis of conscience, but the constitution has a remedy.

The law states he may be fired only for specific reasons. Those reasons do not apply to Mueller. Mueller can appeal his firing in court and will almost certainly win. So I am not too worried.
But if he did succeed in firing Mueller so what? The Republicans will not impeach Trump no matter what. So Trump leaves only when he resigns or loses the 2000 election. Mueller is just another side show.
