Occupy The Vote!!! What does this mean to you?

No, this is not a poll.

It is just an honest question.

I care about your answer very much,
because I've been here at DU for nearly a decade,
waiting for it.

Waiting for this moment,
for this particularly unique niche in Time,
where everything really is possible.

And so here we are.

So tell me true, if you dare.

What does "OCCUPY THE VOTE" mean, or look like, to you?

And I should probably make a practice of just ignoring the ones that aren't,
because when I do ask for clarity, I get snarky replies. My bad.

It means identifying and finding those thousands of registered voters who suddenly do not have the required ID's. It means finding a way to get proper ID's for those voters. There must be a way.

You didn't hear this from me,

may well become THE prevalent theme,

an old hospital bed. One of the old pipe frame ones with manual hand cranks and the big gurney type wheels. Then I can get someone to push me down the street to an Occupy site. I figure that is the only way I'll make it.

Not very fluid, but high maintenance.

to the OWS group. I knew they were coming for the tents. I told them, but they were sure they were going to be ok. I suggested that when they did break up the camp, which did happen the following night,(I left the night before grrr) that they could still occupy by being there until police showed up, then scattering, then regrouping when they left. And that in this way, the police would not be able to keep up with them, there would also not be any trouble with the "guest" that the police dropped off in an attempt to start trouble.

The police should have left them where they were. At least then they knew where they were and basically what they planned. Now, while the groups visability is down, they are simply indoors where they are safe, making plans and more plans. Yah!

My husband told the police that they should not poke the bee hive, but they had to poke and forced the new tactics, which are actually better than the old ones.

at the time I left, some people were setting up hidden tents in Central Park just for this type of thing. I don't know if they are still there or not. They were asking who would be willing to occupy vacant buildings when I left and I know they have done some of that.

I love them all.

I would say that this first means vote.
Participate
Mic check assholes
support the few good candidates
hopefully run pro OWS / pro people candidates
become active vote observers

work to get rid of corporate personhood,
work to get rid of election laws aimed at cutting down on the poor and elderly voting ability.

We don't do polling places. We cast ours from home. Each of us has a set of votes to cast, and each of us occupy our own.
Those of you with 'polling places' and lines to stand in and such, that's your own decision, as each State sets election laws for their elections. Why do you want a polling place?

Just saying. The other poster expresses fear of polling place hassles. We don't do that at all, no polling place, no 'polling police' no nothing. So 'occupy the elections' here will as always, not include polling places.

99%. There are too few candidates that do not first serve the 1% for a cohesive campaign.

Mostly, it sounds like an establishment effort to blunt the Occupy movement by folding it into the existing political parties to maintain the status quo to me.

It won't always be as it is now but 2012 is mostly baked into the cake now as a 1% election.

The more liberal, the better, but vote for the best choice that has a hope in hell of winning.

This keeps the GOP and libertarians out of control.

What "Occupying the Vote" means to me: It means a massive statement made at the voting booth -- a statement made by those who cannot afford to buy a politician. The statement: START WORKING FOR US OR WE WILL VOTE YOU OUT. We need to return our government to the people and end the corrupt collusion between our elected officials and corporate America. I've started a site dedicated to this topic. It's up and running now and I have a few things I still want to add and tweak. Feel free to visit OccupytheVote.com if you are interested in learning, adding and debating ideas in a constructive manner.

Solidarity,
Brock
