The ACA is going down tomorrow. No way does he risk flying back to DC to vote for something that'll die - unless he's a no and everyone knows McCain, when push comes to shove, will always side with the GOP.

(28,795 posts)Wyden is begging on Rachael show for Americans to call their senators
Says it's crucial
He's outraged, talking about the punitive Medicaid cuts, and how certain senators are going to have trouble explaining this
That said, they are signing their political death warrant, aren't they?
Can't help thinking some dems are secretly very happy about this
Could help us take the senate
But, at what human cost?

(7,281 posts)"And its not just that McCain is voting against his party on unimportant issues: McCain has been more willing to vote against the more conservative position on key votes in the past 20 years. McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts, for reducing greenhouse emissions and for funding Obamas executive action providing federal benefits to immigrants who are in the country illegally, in addition to arguing against torture. You can see that McCains transformation on key votes (again measured by the American Conservative Unions scorecards) matches up with when he began to buck the GOP on party-line votes overall: Just before his first run for the presidency in 2000"

He has always voted hardline republican, and no doubt this will just be another opportunity for the angry old man to take it out on the most vulnerable in our society

(11,579 posts)Maybe he has thought over how important having affordable care and no caps or restrictions are for Americans now that he has an aggressive cancer. Sometimes facing death gives a clear perspective...the important stuff. Then again, maybe he has lost whatever was left of his conscience ages ago.
Come on McCain...be a Maverick at last...for real. Honor Kennedy and our country.

(92,136 posts)are responsible for this. Every Democrat running for Senate in those swing states, lost to the incumbent, establishment, republican, and most of those Senators were progressive.
That made all the difference between who controls the Senate.

(102,225 posts)whatever the hell they decide to try to advance. It is not THE vote on any given bill, so let's not jump the cliff.
Of course I don't want it to get THAT far, but frankly, McCain would come even if his vote was not as critical as it is because of the frothing primary opponent for Sen. Flake calling McCain out and suggesting he already resign (and of course let her be appointed to the seat).
