Ted Kennedy got out of his deathbed to vote to give millions of Americans healthcare

John McCain got out his his deathbed to take healthcare away from millions of Americans. If you ever wanted to know the difference between Republicans and Democrats, this example pretty much defines it.

However his death gave impetus to the Democrats to get it done. And oddly enough, Arlen Specter's change of party during the summer of 2009 to become a Democrat, made it possible to get to 60 votes (Specter also had cancer - non-Hodgkins lymphoma, both before and after the ACA crafting era).

He (Kennedy) cast the deciding vote to protect Medicare payments to doctors in 2008. Kennedy was a key driver in early drafts of the ACA. He also traveled to Washington to cast a deciding vote to proceed on Obama’s stimulus package in February 2009, pushing it past a possible Republican filibuster, a key hurdle in the path to becoming law.

He watched and took in the whole scene.

Seems he wanted that for himself but he apparently missed the whole point — Ted Kennedy stood up and stood on the principle of the general welfare of the people.
