So, will Senator McCain have to show up for every vote

on the Republican health care bills? If so, that seems unlikely if this goes on much longer. He's going to need to start treatment soon, assuming he hasn't already done so. It's not a kind sort of treatment, either. The combination radiation and chemotherapy is pretty brutal. So brutal, in fact, that many people with the type of brain cancer he has refuse to be treated, just so they can live a little longer in good enough shape to get done the things they need to get done.

He may be in DC the rest of the week, but I don't see anything passing within that time, or even being close enough to need McCain for 50 votes.

The Senate will soon be short of the 50 votes needed, as long as a couple of Republicans hold out.

Go home, John. Spend some quality time with your family there. Really.

So he would be one of the republican holdouts, unless something in the bill changes for his vote, right?

Many amendments will be offered, and some will pass. In the end, of course, the bill is still going to be made of large grazing mammal excrement.

Any bill will only have the potential to get Yes votes from Republicans in the Senate. So, his vote may be needed for a bill to get 50 Yes votes at any point.

The Right Wingers in the Senate will vote no on some versions, I have no doubt. They will be unhappy with any bill that doesn't simply erase the ACA from history. What they want, in their Ayn Rand libertarian way, is no healthcare that involves the federal government in any way. That's their goal.

6 hours after he said he would vote no on the bills.

As always, all talk.

Frankly, it won't do any good. It might extend his life a little, but will also make that life miserable. I know I'd just say no to treatment if I was in his condition and make the most of whatever good time I had left.
