Momentum for a skinny ObamaCare repeal bill is growing in the Senate as one by one other measures to reform the nations healthcare law fall by the wayside.
Legislation to repeal ObamaCare with a two-year delay only secured 45 votes on Wednesday, a day after a repeal-and- replace bill won just 43 votes in a procedural motion.
Those tallies suggest Senate Republicans may have to narrow their goals to win 51 votes for legislation in the face of unified Democratic opposition.
Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), the No. 2 Senate Republican, told reporters Wednesday that a scaled-down bill might be the best way to move forward on the issue, possibly by holding a conference committee with the House, which approved a broader repeal-and-replace bill.

(8,203 posts)After this latest unsuccessful vote, the most likely scenario, for now, is that McConnell presents the Senate with a new, so-called skinny bill ― written on the fly ― that would merely repeal the Affordable Care Acts individual and employer mandates, along with its tax on medical device sales.
The Congressional Budget Office analyzed the effects of repealing only the individual mandate in a 2015 report, and found it would destabilize the health insurance market, leading to 15 million fewer people with coverage and 20 percent health insurance premium increases. The budget agency didnt project the effects of eliminating the employer mandate and the medical device tax in that report.
So 15 million people only - and +20% premium...that would merely repeal the Affordable Care Acts individual and employer mandates, along with its tax on medical device sales.
Pathetic and disgusting....

(51,430 posts)There are marches planned for this Sat by the Women's March group and several other resisting groups. If you google it you can find out if your city is one of the 118 already planning an event. Since it is about healthcare there should be a pretty big turn out from red and blue states and all ages will be represented.
Our Lives Are On The Line is the name of the march.
McConnell doesn't plan on a vote until Th or Fri but he changes his mind and keeps things so secret who knows what they are voting for and when (including his own party).
Resist! Peace.
