Not sure if our connections to Europe are affected by this move. There will probably be some dislocation on the Continent if Russia suffers, but I'm not sure if there are any real treaty protections.

The thing is, sanctions will probably hurt some Americans, too. One could make the argument that people doing business in/with Russia maybe shouldn't be, because the country is run by oligarchs, many of whom emerged from the Russian gang syndicates after the fall of the Soviet Union. Any American should tread lightly when dealing with Russia.

I will submit that there are probably legitimate businesses engaging in commerce with Russians. But the Russian government and Putin in particular are known to be corrupt and gangster-like. It's almost surprising these sanctions passed with such high percentage of support in the Congress.
