imo, Trump's unpopularity is real, but it doesn't necessarily propagate down-ticket.

we can ascertain from polls and recent special elections replacing the jerks Trump slurped into his freakshow cabinet that
1. around 1/3 of the population strongly supports Trump even after all the bullshit of the last 7-8 months
2. 10-15% of the population doesn't like Trump but votes R anyway, whether from habit or ideology

so we're basically stuck in the same position we've been in for a long time, where the Republicans are super-motivated to vote anytime anywhere, and Democrats act like elections happen once every 4 years. i think Republican candidates will reliably average 43-48% of the vote regardless of how disgustingly their leaders behave -- hell, some of the Rs view criminal misbehavior as a virtue.
