Couldn't be more perfect. His failure to get this legislation through has Republican Senators thinking about new leadership. He contrived and double-dealt to get this bill passed and he FAILED…BIGLY…HUGELY. He said the Dems are celebrating and I hope they are after what he has put them and PBO through for the last 8 years. This may be a true example of the moral arm of the universe working …against him and his so called president.

then, endless investigations (well, at least nine) into republican campaign crimes and ethics violations and so on, followed by appropriate charges, trials, and sentences.

Tax reform is coming up. That's going to be a real hoot and they'll probably get that passed. Never mind that the whole supply side scam got its lab test in Kansas, an otherwise fiscally healthy state, and nearly destroyed everything. These guys don't care that their dogma has failed miserably, it's their dogma and they're sticking to it.

9. The So Called Freedom Caucus May Be The Undoing Of That

There's no way to pay for tax cuts now that the health care overhaul failed. The ACA was going to be the bankroll and the FC is saying the tax cuts have to be paid for. Besides, let's not underestimate how 45 can create problems that will roadblock this legislation too.

16. I wish this were true, but...

There are a few other tax reform proposals floating out there with revenue raising components. Some provisions of the Trump plan would create huge cash inflows, especially in year 1. The trick will be the Republican desire to make any tax cuts permanent. That would require the CBO saying the tax cuts won't increase the deficit after year 10 (or the tax laws sunset/expire like the Bush tax cuts). This is where the Republicans are arguing amongst themselves. Some just want a 10-year money grab using reconciliation procedures to limit the Democrats ability to stop the legislation, while others want a permanent tax cut.

Plus, you know the Republicans will slash spending for multiple social services if they need an offset for near-term budgetary purposes. They may dismantle portions of government so severely that certain agencies never recover (ie., don't need to be funded at all).

The failure of ACA repeal is a great start, but there are plenty of tough fights left before yearend. No one likes to pay taxes, and it's an easy appeal to populist sentiment that "we pay too much taxes already". That makes it all the more imperative the Democrats stick together on this front. Tax reform will be ugly if the Dems don't get out front with proper and easily understood messaging about the actual consequences of anything this current Republican Congress tries to pass. We all know it will be heavily slanted to benefit the super wealthy.
