How to stop Single Payer

In thinking about Health Care, lets make the assumption that we all don't believe in single payer and wanted to stop it. Wouldn't the logical thing be to work with dems to stabilize the market at this point? It seems like it is likely that Trump is going to try to nuke the markets (e.g. stop paying the cost sharing reduction payments to the insurance companies). This seems like a political disaster to me and when Democrats get back in, they are going for something more aggressive then the ACA.

That said, there a lot you could do if you were the GOP. Ensuring payments to insurance companies for the cost savings reduction, for a start. You could give tax advantages for insurance companies to offer coverage if a market only has 1 provider. If you want to get crazy, increase the penalty for not buying insurance and bump up the subsidies to buy insurance.

In sum, there is a lot of stuff you could actually do and do it pretty easily. Dems would jump on it and most of the GOP members would to. If you did it, that would block single payer possible forever.

So question, why don't they just do that?

want to trash Obama some more, and the wealthy prefer a tax cut over healthcare for everyone.
