. . . . . stories of the resisters. The physically challenged using their very bodies in acts of real strength. Stories of people helped. Stories of long, hard work paying dividends. Reminiscences of of where the ACA came from. How it got here. Who contributed. Its inherent fundamental strength.
I'm feeling better tonight. I know this may well not be over But tonight, I am taking some real joy at the world in which I live. I have hope. I can see us prevail. The road will still be uphill, but I think it got a little less steep today.
Three republicans voted the right way. But look at our side. No defections. Solidarity. One purpose. From our most liberal to our most conservative. What a wonderful numerical combination is 51-49.
Tomorrow we'll be back at it. But at least tonight, we can all take a break and smile.
Thanks to those whose stories are out there tonight. Thanks to the Resisters.

We did it! I don't know about you but I'm emotionally wiped our and need a mental vacation for about 5 years.

(367 posts)I was just considering how to word something like this. You've done a great job, thanks! We need to let sink in what we've learned about our collective energy. I really hope people are seeing how the power of the people is what drives this country!
Yes, there is corruption.
Yes, there is racism.
Yes, there is greed.
And people are woke up!
We need to use this to build upon for bigger challenges to come....believe in each other, the strength of unity and working toward common goals.
Thanks, Stinky The Clown!

(6,908 posts)We disabled people are already in pain, likely, and it's hard to put the screws to somebody who is totally used to discomfort. We can stand the abuse, we're used to it. But you know who can't? Good people who witness such abuse. A disabled reporter was insulted and mocked by Trump for the world to see. He made enemies of disabled people AND those who stand up for those weaker than them.
Those are the real heroes, they stood up for someone who was standing up for someone else.

(3,055 posts)Bought it having never heard of it because my best friend told me I'd love the ending. She was right. Great, great flick. Ever see "Dark Passage"?

(2,147 posts)It's hard for me to sit through an entire movie because life - sometimes you have to piece it together from a clip here, five minutes on TCM there, and elements from an SNL sketch. I think I recognize the title, drama from the 40s in B&W with some of Hollywood's finest.
But it's on my radar now. Thanks!
(Are there any "good Saturday afternoon movies" threads going in DU at the moment?)

(3,055 posts)But a great idea!
Yeah, Dark Passage is basically same story (wrongly convicted man who escapes prison), except the prison break is at the beginning of the movie. And it's Bogart and Bacall. What else is needed?

(81,127 posts)Those folks are genuine heroes. Their bodies may be failing them in one way or other, but they still have guts of tempered American STEEL. The disabled and severely-disabled most of all. An AMAZING sight. My respect and admiration for them is up in the stratosphere. They were a world-class inspiration like I've seldom seen. True COURAGE.
I'd call that another way of putting one's life on the line.
We should all be extremely grateful to them. Maybe that's how our Democrats came to understand what having guts-of-tempered-steel looks like?

(2,961 posts)Who would not be moved, who were arrested, who resisted and persisted, humble me to the ground. They are the true American heroes.

(5,210 posts)I and so many others couldn't move my Congressman one inch, not one iota, on this subject. "Market forces," "giving people more choice" and other nonsense. Could NOT get him to see that "choice" isn't worth much if you're dead or dying and can't get that process stopped.
But what I learned last night is that we didn't need EVERYONE to change their minds and their votes. We just needed "enough." Like the rule for how many votes you need to win an election: 50% + 1.
It is, however, a major PITB that it takes so damned much effort by so many people to find the few hearts that can be moved.
And yes, these people are amazing heroes. Very humbling.
