My original thread predicting McCain's coming back to vote to move forward was a signal of the end of ACA.Never in a million years would I believe McCain would stick it to Mitch.
So I own it... I was wrong. Thankfully.

(13,390 posts)There was every reason to believe the worst would happen. I held out hope and was happy to see it happen. I just made a lucky guess and would not feel obligated to give in to shaming if I was wrong. I don't think eating crow is necessary.

(10,279 posts)some unkind words for McConnell and Trump. Instead, he took them down the garden path and ruined their plan to screw the poor this fiscal year by voting "no" on the bill. I also barely missed my other prediction -- that MConnell would have a stroke on the senate floor and be taken to Georgetown Hosp.
I think that this vote reduced McConnell's ability to continue. Of all the shit he heaped on Pres. Obama, he got back in measure a humiliating defeat by a black president who is no longer in office. McConnell has to go back to his buddies in Kentucky. There will be no sipping Wild Turkey bourbon and pats on the back for finally erasing Pres. Obama's legacy. He may decided to retire, to spend more time with his loving wife, and help her family manage all the advantages he set up for their companies.

(4,309 posts)... To give cover to the other GOPers that had to vote yes, so they'd not get in trouble with their base ?
Maybe the full story will come out some day.

(18,672 posts)Not your fault. For once he surprised me and voted the way he talked instead of talking one way and then once again ending up voting with the party line. I guess at this point he really doesn't have much to lose.

(26,619 posts)He hasn't atoned for everything, think Sarah Palin, but he sure redeemed himself on healthcare, even while making wildly untrue statements about how the ACA was passed. This is so different and he knows it. Any comparison is fake.
I was sure he'd be a yes vote, but he was true to his speech. Score one for McCain, and I mean ONE!

(6,926 posts)It does not erase his other awful votes and choices (Sarah Palin), but it was great to watch McConnell walk off in defeat.

(49,445 posts)As in, the GOP needs something to fail because they know, factually, it's better if it dies. But politically/ideologically, they can't vote against it. So they have the rank-and-file vote one way, and a designated spoiler or two (such as McCain) vote with the Democrats so it dies.
I'm glad it went down in flames as well.. but like a burning mattress, these things can come back to life without warning.

(15,220 posts)In my defense, I did say in my posts expecting McCain to cave that I would definitely like to be surprised by him. And I was surprised. Thankfully.
I called McCain's office on Friday to thank him for his vote, and to wish him well.

Don't give too much credit to ol' John though. Some Female Senators from Maine and Alaska had been holding their finger in the dike for quite awhile before that!

(14,047 posts)It was a surprise based on a long record of McCain saying the right thing and then doing the wrong thing. McConnell knew McCain's past well enough that he thought he could count on that.
When I found out just how completely McCain screwed him, all I could think was "Well played sir".
