Republicans terrified that Trump will turn his rabid base against the party

DAVID FERGUSON at Raw Story

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/07/republicans-terrified-that-trump-will-turn-his-rabid-base-against-the-party/

"SNIP............

Republicans in Congress and the broader Grand Old Party (GOP) are worried that now that President Donald Trump has cut loose former Republican National Committee (RNC) honchos Reince Priebus and Sean Spicer, he could turn his followers against the party itself.

In a Politico essay published Sunday, reporter Tim Alberta said that members of the Republican Party are fretting that Trump will go rogue and use his followers’ fanatical devotion to undermine other figures in the GOP should they disappoint him.

Reince Priebus was a well-connected Wisconsin Republican with long-standing relationships with Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) and Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI). Spicer, too, has spent years working with various factions within the GOP and uniting fractious coalitions.

However, Spicer and Priebus both ran afoul of their new boss early on.

“Trump trampled Priebus from Day One,” wrote Alberta, “sending out press secretary Sean Spicer, a longtime Preibus ally, to deliver a demonstrably false rant about the inaugural crowd size. Trump resented the idea that his chief of staff was there to tame him, and resented even more the notion that Priebus was the conduit to a Republican Party he had conquered.”

and dead before sixty. He supposedly was a vegetarian in his later years. We can at least be thankful that Trump is seventy-one and looks more unhealthy and heavier everyday. If he makes it through one term, he surely won't have the energy and sanity to actually run for a second, despite the fact that he began his re-election campaign the minute he took office.

On one hand, they demonize social welfare programs, promise to stand for industries that are no longer economically viable, etc. But when it comes time to deliver, they can't. Doing so would severely harm their constituents which would result in their eventual demise, i.e. "you promised coal jobs! but there aren't any!" ...but if the vote for new industries for their constituents... "you voted against coal jobs!"

And the unfortunate part, they can communicate, in the example I used, that coal is dead.... and they will refuse to believe it and rally around the next opportunist who will tell them what they want to hear. Diversifying their district would have protected them from that, but, it also puts them at risk against a politician from the Democratic Party. Apparently they thought a "safe" district was better.
