What would Professor Tribe's Harvard law students say if they knew that he retweeted a clickbait headline that distorted a news story without doing the most basic due diligence of actually reading the article that appeared under it?

Here's what Mrs. Pelosi actually said according to the Fox News Sunday transcript:
WALLACE: OK. I got 30 seconds and the question is, what are the chances Democrats win back the House in 2018? And if so, will you run for speaker?
PELOSI: Its so unimportant. What is important is that we have a lively debate on a better deal, better pay, better jobs, and a better future. And thats what we look forward to having. We have unity in our party. You saw with the fight on Affordable Care Act in the House and in the Senate.
With respect Professor Tribe, The Hill's headline is an insane distortion. You should be more careful.
Me.

(1,349 posts)It doesn't take much to look at the 300 replies correcting him or to look at the link itself. The usual suspects seem to be hiding behind Tribe to continue the assault on Democratic women, which is the favorite pass time of a certain faction.

(108,975 posts)I read Pelosi's response the same way you did -- she wants to focus on ISSUES, not whether she's going to run for speaker

(37,648 posts)She does say it's unimportant, in answer to his question. Could be answering if they would take back the House, or answering if she would run for speaker. But it seems like she's answering the first question.
Of course she wants to win back the House. She was trying to focus on the "new" message...unity, better deal, etc., and stay away from election talk. But she still did say that.

(33,643 posts)Not well-chosen words ... similar to the gaffe re: ACA and the whole 'you have to vote for it to see what's in it' (I know that's not exact, but it could've been read that way).
She's not the most careful of speakers at times in interview situations. Got a little Biden in her, truth told ...

Only The Hill via Fox News would construe her answer to mean "It's not important that we win the midterms." Spinners gotta spin.

(6,916 posts)Tribe got fooled. I bet he apologizes.

(53,031 posts)if I were him and take the tweet down.
It's disturbing that a Harvard constitutional law professor can't bother to read a 500 word article before tweeting it. That we then see some of his readers double down on the distortion, even when presented with the actual quote, doesn't speak well of our political culture.

(16,950 posts)into believing an elected politician said winning elections is unimportant? I would want my money back for his class. He needs to apologize.
