Future History Headline: Democrats Fail to Win Majority in House

In the November 2018 congressional elections, Democrats fell short of their goals to win back a majority in the lower house of Congress. All 18 of the members of the Blue Dog Coalition in the current House, lost their elections to Republicans, following heated primary battles in their states. Challenged by progressive Democrats in the Primaries, they failed to achieve a consensus vote among Democrats, who appear to have been divided along social issue lines. The incumbents, of course, won their primary elections, but many Democrats who had supported their primary challengers refused to vote for those incumbents in the General Election. The reduced voter turnout allowed all 18 Democratic incumbents to be replaced by conservative Republican challengers.

By retaining their House Majority, Republicans gained a victory that lets them continue to repeal and weaken laws designed to protect civil rights and other rights. With a Republican President still in the White House for two more years, that means certain approval for bills that pass the House and are also passed by the Senate, which also retained a slim Republican majority, in part due to increased factionalism among Democratic voters. Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell (R-KY), declared: "This outcome ensures the success of Republican plans to shift this nation further to the right. The American People have spoken, and we're listening."

Calls to Democratic Party leaders had not been returned as of this writing.

Apparently, those Blue Dogs weren't strong enough supporters of some issues, so they got primaried. You know, the $15 minimum wage, voter suppression, racial issues. That sort of thing.

The only red vs blue issue I've seen recently on these boards is about women's rights

It appears that the issue of a woman's right to choose is negotiable! And in the hopes of winning seats in the House, no litmus test is to expected for any candidate running as a Democrat(lite)!

If there is no litmus test on women's health issues, then LGBTQ rights will soon be negotiable as well!

Roe versus Wade, a woman's right to privacy, is gone. Which is a woman's right to choose

They don't even have change the filibuster because they now have picked up 8 of the 33 Democrat Senate seats in the Senate.

EDIT: I forgot, they already changed the rules to 50, now all they have to do is not lose 2

How do you think woman's rights would be dealt with. Then?

Simplistic yes, unfortunately real, please, please, understand

A majority of Catholics used to be democrats until the right started making abortion an issue. In rural areas gun rights are very important and they feel dems don't understand that rural life is very different than city life.

However, I very much like your neologism, "to jillstein." It needs to be in wider use.

The Democrat should have won handily, but she got jillsteined.

replaced by a better Democrat who could still win in WV. However, I don't live in WV, so I don't know who that might be, frankly.

Fortunately, I won't have to decide whether to vote for Manchin. I live in Minnesota. Maybe West Virginians can find someone better than him who can still win. I don't know. It's a tough state for Democrats, I'm afraid.

I'm going to have to leave West Virginia to the people who have to live there.

If I was a Democrat in San Francisco, I'd be voting for Nancy Pelosi!

But I guaran-gawdam-tee you, Nancy Pelosi won't ever be runnin' for dog catcher in North Alabama - and SHE'LL tell you that!

Y'all vote for YOUR Democrat - let us vote for OUR Democrat!

That's why we call it a Big Tent!
