Inside Bernie Sanderss campaign to save Obamacare

On three separate occasions this July, staffers for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) began preparing for the rollout of his new single-payer health care bill.
But every time they started to do so, Senate Republicans would improbably revive their push to repeal Obamacare and Sanderss team would postpone the launch of their Medicare-for-all campaign, according to aides to the Vermont senator.
Bernie has repeated to us over and over and over again, Our top priority is doing everything in our power to make sure 20 million people dont lose their health care, said Ari Rabin-Havt, a senior adviser to Sanders.
This was something of a relief to some Democrats. Just last year, the party warily eyed Sanders as a potential liability as much as a potential ally. After all, he has repeatedly insisted that Obamacare was, at best, a way station on the road to single-payer.

In addition to Conyers's HR 676, Democrat Jim McDermott has also introduced Medicare for All legislation multiple times since 1993 (HR 1200). While Rep. Sanders was not an original co-sponsor, he did sign on in 1994 and as a senator introduced a companion bill. (Hence the reference to S 915 in the the medicareforall.org comparison chart.)
There were also reports in March that Sanders would shortly release a Medicare for All bill in conjunction with Rep. Peter Welch, but those efforts have yet to materialize. Alternet, on the other hand, reported last March that the promised bill would mirror earlier legislation.
According to Truthdig, a digital campaign was launched in late July, and Common Dreams is reporting today that as "Money Pours In for Sanders's New Medicare for All Digital Campaign", the hope is that the bill will finally be released on Wednesday, August 9.
Sanders, who has made multiple announcements about the upcoming announcement, has stated that he will release the actual text of the actual bill very, very, very soon. Whether it is companion legislation to HR 676, a re-vamped version of S 915, or new legislation will be revealed very shortly.
Confusion caused by the multiple announcements concerning the upcoming announcement is expected to abate once a final announcement is released.
